| There's plenty of americans with acne. Have you done any research online? I know it's hard to do without getting bombarded with a bunch "Miracle-Acne-Cure" ads. Most are either a special creme/oil/cleanser or some kind of diet plan. I don't know how intense your acne is or if you have a doctor you can go to but I've had some success with using a micro-bead face wash and adjusting my diet to less meat and dairy, adding more fruits, veg, nuts to my diet, exercise is also very good for your skin as well. 1. Use good face/body wash 2. Limit meat 3. Limit dairy 4. Eat more Fruits 5. Eat more Veggies 6. Eat more Nuts 7. Exercise Regularly Hope this helps! Last edited by tylersch : 02-13-2007 at 02:19 AM. |

Is it popular in your country. It is said that it birthed in US and have a supernatural ability of curing the acne and scar that acne produced. Here we called "Myth-Acne-Cure".But I am suspicious of its effect. So I want to get your idea about it.Could anyone say something? Apparently exposure to the sun helps eliminate acne. Granted, it does have the downside of increasing your risk of skin cancer down the road.. I'm fortunate that I've never had much problem with acne. Then again, it could be because of my diet and lifestyle--I eat well, exercise, drink a ton of water and green tea and very little sugar, caffeine and dairy. One of my friends had a good amount of success with Proactiv.

| yes, acne is a way for your body to say "stop feeding me all this crap". Forget the "quick fix" methods. Even if they do work temporarely, your acne WILL come back if you treat yourself the way you did before. Look in the root. |

| I cut out all milk products and that helped a lot because I'm allergic to milk. Get tested for allergies

| Yes , I want to do something like what you have done. But my parents consist that milk is good to my health, and order me not stop drinking it.I am a persuasible boy.So I don't want to defy them. Otherwise, I have eaten much fruits as follows every day: 1.Drinking some lemon-honey tea when I get up. 2.Eating a apple before lunch, and drink a dram of pure orange juice half an hour later after lunch 3.One orange after dinner and another apple before go to bed. I have done what I could do ,but the situation doesn't develope to the better. I never get any sign that the acne in my face is going to recover. However,it never become more worse. I feel eliminating acne is a great project.I am going to fight for getting new life.(exaggeration For I am in a non-english country, please forgive me my poor english. Maybe this will help Acne vulgaris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A healthy diet will also help as lot of people here have already pointed out. I am sure we'll all try to help you. | One of the best ways to get rid of your acne is too relax and get more sleep. Acne isn't stress-induced but is almost certainly perpetuated by it. Sleep relieves stress and consequently reduces acne. Trust it, it worked very well for me. |

| I just read on wikipedia that milk and sugar most likely have an effect. It kind of irritates me that many websites still claim that diet has no effect at all. Someone on here suggested Proactiv. Consider "benzoyl peroxide". It is cheap, over the counter, and I believe that is all Proactiv consists of. This website has a lot of advice on the subject: Acne.org A summary of the regimen they recommend: gentle washing, followed by application of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, followed by moisturizing. |

| Sugar is most definitely a cause. Try an experiment and eat a quart of ice cream tonight. If your acne isn't worse tomorrow, I'll be suprised. Sleeping too much is also bad, because you're face is pushed into the pillow, setting the stage for more pore blockage. Change your pillowcase often. Exercise is fine, but be sure to wash your face (and hair) quickly after sweating. That is another source of pore blockage and it will quickly exacerbate your acne. Caffeine is also an instigator, as well as alcohol. Some people are sensitive to this, some to that. Experiment by taking one thing out of your diet for 3-5 days at a time to see if helps. Then try something else. Then something else. Etc. But sugar, I can say unequivocally is bad for anyone with acne. In fact it's probably why you see so many more people these days with acne then you used to. Our sugar intake has increased throughout the population. |

| Definately sugar is a cause for me. When I went on Atkins diet, my acne disappeared. Whenever I find myself eating too much sugar, such as over the holidays, a blemish or two will appear. Fruit and especially fruit juice has lots of sugar. If you can, skip the fruit in favor of vegetables and replace the juice with water. I also have a cousin who had some success with proactiv.

| Vanillakids, Start to think about this. You body is a physical manifestation of your being. That includes reflections of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions you have. Your face is the part of you you show to the world. It, for the most part, represents you. Now you look in the mirror and see acne. "There's something wrong with my face." Do you say that to yourself? Taking it one step further... what do you feel is wrong with you? Whatever thoughts go through your head when you see your acne is what you should be working on. I think in some way you are critical of yourself and not aware of it.

| I believe acne takes a week or two to develope, so even if his skin is worse tomorrow, I think it's hard to blaim it on the ice cream... |

A few years back, I was mis-prescribed a steroid that caused me to have severe acne, even for several months after I quit the steroid. During that time, I experimented with taking things out of my diet and watching the effects of different foods. I clearly remember eating ice cream and feeling skin irritation WHILE I was eating it. The next day I noticed several nearly-healed spots were infected again. And a couple of other spots had cropped up. I removed sugar from my diet, and things began to slowly get better. Then just to be sure, I tried the ice cream experiment again. Same results. I'm not saying everyone will have this exact reaction. But the link was clear in my case. Insulin is a very powerful hormone, and while many MDs will not discuss dietary links to chronic disease without being very guarded, after my experiment I got 2 dermatologists to grudgingly admit that insulin/sugar had been linked to acne exacerbations in recent medical publications. |

| When I was a teenager I was very pretty but had some acne. I went to a modeling school and the one great piece of advice I learned there follows. Just follow a three-step system: 1. Cleanse 2. Astringent 3. Moisturize That's it. Oh, and the three step system should ideally be in the same line and hypoallergenic (I use Almay). My skin cleared up pretty quickly and ever since then (about two decades ago!) everyone always tells me how pretty and clear my skin is. I was pretty strict about the regimen in the beginning. Now that I am older and less prone to breakouts, I will sometimes skip #2 or #3 if I am in a rush ... but most days I adhere to the full three-step system. It takes all of five minutes. When I have stopped for a month or so (too busy to get to the drugstore to get all of my Almay products) my skin has started looking much less healthy and I might get a pimple. Ugh. Easier to just follow the program.

| Vanillakids.. also check out Ask Shelley.com - Vital Health Management Center and read the FAQs and possibly look under candida. Depending on how bad your acne is it may be a yeast over load hence all the 'cut sugar talk too. sorry if this has already been mentioned. There is also good ole Acne.org check out their forums and namely under the HOLISTIC section. As the others have said i also beleive in it too. Its a reflection of something going wrong inside.. Good luck and maybe start by drinking apple cider vinegar, eating and cooking with Coconut oil, using cinemon, adding a lot of garlic/onion to your food. Stu |

| As an Avon rep and former teenager (long ago...heavy sigh), here is my advice: DRINK WATER Lots of it. It helps your skin renew itself. All the other info about diet is true - especially caffeine, which still makes me break out even in my old age. Alos, don't over-cleanse. I know it's hard to do, since you may be tempted to rush and wash your face as soon as you fel a bit dirty or oily, but when you overdo it your skin actually produces more oil as a reaction, making your acne condition worse. Good luck! Rosie www.youravon.com/rreeves
