A couple of days ago, I tried drinking only water for the entire day with it being eight glasses or about 1 liter. It was pretty ridiculous how much I had to pee that day. I swear I would drink one glass, and less than 30 minutes later I would have to go to the bathroom immediately, and it was like I only had a couple of seconds to get there or else I would pee on myself. Perhaps, it wasn't that bad, but the feeling was a most definitely urgent one like go to bathroom right now. Anyway, I do want to switch over to mainly just drinking water, and I know I need to set aside some time for my body to adjust as that previous experience clearly illustrated. So, my question is does anyone know how long it takes the body to adjust to just drinking water?

i think it may depend on the body. i wanna say i heard someone on a show (like some kind of 'expert') say to give yourself a week to adjust. but since every biological system has a few differences (like metabolism rates), some may adjust more quickly and some make take a little longer. i'll also say, you should have increasing improvement in the area of urgency. i'd think that would get better as time goes on, and fairly quickly, like within 72 hours or less. i would guess (only a guess) that a person would fully adjust by two weeks at the latest. |

What did you drink before you drank plain water? I get at least 3 litres of water a day, and if I have 2 glasses, probably about 400ml, at about 7:30am before I go to school, I do not need to use the bathroom until I get home after 3:30pm.

You don't need to drink any more water if you feel alert and are peeing clear. Having to pee constantly is a sign your body has an adequate supply of water...or maybe a bladder problem. A lot of the water you intake comes from food too. My mug holds about 500 mL and I go through 3 to 6 mugs of caffeine free tea a day plus 1 or 2 tall glasses of grapefruit juice. That's depending on how much work and exercise I do that day or if I have coffee. |

One thing that helps is to drink water slowly. That gives your body more of a chance to absorb the water. Even when you're very dehydrated, you'll notice that drinking water too quickly makes you need to pee (if you're not used to it).

it could also be that you`re thinking about this change too much and influencing your bladder that way. At one point in my life I thought that I had some kind of a bladder problem because every night before falling asleep, I had to go to the bathroom like 4 times, lol. I visited a doctor and she run all tests possible on me, they all came back clear. She told me that I`d be surprised to find out how many people are having "problems" with bladder (urinating too often) which aren`t problems at all. She told me that bladder is an organ with a brain, meaning that it`s very easy to influence and "train" it... like, you think: I`m drinking SO much water now, this must end up with going to bathroom every 3o minutes...and guess what, it WILL end that way You don`t even have to think those thoughts consciously... But of course, it might be because you are actually consuming more liquid than before or it could be both. |

This is a simple problem. You are drinking too much so you have to urinate a lot. If your urine gets colored than you are drinking too little. If someone drinks a quart a water a day and their urine is clear. That is plenty. Now say that person drinks 6 gallons of water a day. His urine will look the same but too much water overworks your kidneys. How much water do you need to drink a day? Here is the formula. Multiply your height by your weight and divide by your age. Then add the number of steps in front of your house. Then add the the mg of salt that you consume that day. Then divide by how many pounds of food you ate. Then take that number and multiply that by the natural log of pi. |

i drink mostly just water throughout the day (sometimes a fuze drink or green tea, some coffee in the am and a glass of wine at dinner). some days i drink more like i can't get enough some days i am like a camel. some days (mostly in am...think it is a morning cleansing process) i go frequently and it tapers during the day (rarely get up during the night). but i have had tests and i have a tiny bladder and alcohol and caffeine and some foods are bladder irritants. so it is different for me everyday...just don't focus on it much, i guess. |

This does mean that you are not drinking too much. My math did figure that if someone consumed 4 ounces of salt, they would need to consume 4 gallons of water to not get dehydrated. Maybe you should get a doctor to check your kidneys. | |
