Default Natural Cures for Multiple Sclerosis

Hello Everyone...
Just found this site, accidentally. I love it. Great to see people helping people. Anyway, I was diagnosed with M.S. in 2003 and have been taking Copaxone medicine since then. My condition seems to have been developing since. I went from an educated, dancing, full time, professional to a retired, self employed, 29 year old, mother of a 5 month old with a walker. Lately I've been reading up on natural treatments and the effects of mercury poison on M.S. I'm curious if anyone has insight on this topic, either through personal experience or otherwise. All replies are appreciated greatly...

A voice student I know was diagnosed with MS. She took a spiritual approach and feels much healthier since addressing loads of pent up anger.

Good luck to you.

I've heard of good results with EFT. Have a look at this, and this. The second case I contacted myself, because I was amazed. Yes she truly had gotten her symptoms down. She moved on to doing EFT with a practitioner to get more benefit.

Have a go! You've got nothing to lose but your walker! You can download a pdf file from the emofree website, or I have a shorter one available from my homepage.

Much joy to you

Another thing you absolutely want to avoid is sugary products/drinks or refined sugar. An elevated blood sugar could likely hurt your nerve cell even more. ( excessive consumption of sugar has been linked to increase risk of MS )

In addition to Methylcobalamin, Risotriene , you may also consider Fish oil ( EPA and DHA ) or Cod liver oil ( again EPA/DHA + vitamin A & D ).

Anything to do with relaxation of mind ( such as EFT, spiritual approach suggested above ) would be greatly beneficial.

Good luck and have a speedy recovery .

While there is no single cure for MS, there are a number of factors that are involved in affecting or, more importantly, reducing symptoms of the condition. Below are a few worth considering...this may be information you know or that has already been covered, but redundancy is a good thing...a way to emphasize a point, eh?

Food allergies: Typically our immune system ingores foreign proteins found in food but occasionally our bodies react to these these proteins as if they are harmful = food allergies. MS is an autoimmune disease. For some reason, in autoimmune disease, our immune system is recognizing our own tissue (in the case of MS, the myelin sheath that surrounds/protects our nerves) as foreign and builds a defense against this "foreign" protein. In some cases of MS, this can be triggered by a response to a food allergies. Typical food allergies include wheat, gluten (a protein found in several grains, including wheat), soy and corn...but there are many others. It can be helpful to identify any possible food allergies and eliminate the offending food from your diet. An elimination diet (eating a hypoallergenic diet for two weeks and then adding in foods of concern on at a time to see if symtoms get worse - similar to the principle of introducing food to a baby) is the best way to identify food allergies. A good, whole-foods based nutritionist can help you with that.

Vitamin D: Low levels of vitamin D have been linked to several neurological diseases including MS. As a matter of fact, the prevalence of MS is higher the farther you get from the equator because of our bodies inability to produce vitamin D when exposed to sunshine between approximately October to March (depending on your latitude). So, make sure you get enough sun exposure between during the spring and summer (remember, sunscreen blocks the UV rays necessary for us to produce vitamin D). During the fall and winter months a good vitamin D supplement is essential. Cod liver oil alone may not contain enough vitamin D. Given your condition, it may be a good idea to regularly check your vitamin D levels...just a simple blood test.

Omega-3 fatty acids: Via a marine source (EPA and DHA)..a high quality fish oil, among other benefits, helps reduce inflammation and may greatly aid in reducing symptoms.

Vitamin B12: Many people with MS are found to have a deficiency in vitamin B12. We don't know why this is...it could be because these people have a hard time digesting/absorbing it, it may be they need more, it may be they consume more...we don't know the reason yet. Therefore, taking a B12 supplement is a really good idea but to ensure absorption, I would recommend taking a sublinginal (under the tongue) supplement of methycobalamin.

Antioxidants: Vitamin A, C, E and many of the phytonutrients (all found in abundance in veggies, fruit and nuts, legumes) help fight pro-oxidation that can cause inflammation and other damage.

A good, healthy diet: Lots of veggies, lots. And fruit and nuts. Adequate amount of protein - fish, eggs, chicken, beans. And healthy fats - coconut oil, olive oil, avocado (yum!), nuts....you know the old saying, "the best defense is a good offense" Diet is the best offense to promoting health!

Relaxation techniques, EFT, anything to help promote self-healing is a positive venture.

Hang in there, think well of yourself, and continue to seek health. I am wishing you all good things.

Jess

Red face Natural Approach

I'm actually flagged as high risk for MS b/c I had optic neuritis a few years back and I use Nutriferon . I'm sure you've all done your research on interferon and how it naturally builds the immune system and why it's so good in MS patients. However, the traditional treatments are painful, expensive and have bad side effects.

I found out that the guy that discovered interferon in the body spend the next 40 years recreating the formula from plants so that it was gentle but just as effective for people with immune disorders. Nutriferon is the result (there's obviously more detail on that page).

I take it religiously and just had another great checkup, but I also know people personally whose MS never acted up again after Nutriferon use.

Hey--its natural and worth a shot right

I think I had an old post on this topic a year or so ago. Please search.

I've done tons of research on this, and helped my mother with her M.S. Prior to her moving in with me, she was bed ridden (couldn't even hardly lift her head!) for a week or two at a time, and very slugish with a cane at other times. She quit taking her prescriptions, and I introduced a wonderful diet. Within days she quit using her cane, and was never confined to bed. The diet consisted of body cleanses, lots of vegetables, B vitamins, omegas, and eliminating red meat and dairy. She went to a natural health doctor who totally agreed with our regime, and introduced EFT. She did not stick with that though. She moved out over 3 years ago, eats pretty healthy, and the only meds she takes is for high blood pressure. She is now walks slugish with the cane, eyes are a little worse, but never confined to her bed.

I think her stress is the main culprit, and I agree with Michelle that a spiritual approach should be followed.

I've been urging her to try and remove mercury from her body, but she seems reluctant. She is almost 65 years old now, and may have something to do with that. I've heard of studies where QUALITY zeolite removes heavy metals. Chelation therapy is the standard for removing metals.

On another note, she did not believe she had M.S. for the 1st 10 years. Not sure if it was denial, but I believe the most important attribute is to be in the right frame of mind.

I hope all goes well in your endeavor.

Multiple Sclerosis is one of those degenerative lifestyle diseases. Different people are born with inclinations toward different diseases. Your inclination is MS. So you will get many different answers as to what causes it and what cures it. The term for all these factors is health. The better your health, the less symptoms. The worst your health, the more symptoms.

See this webpage, Natural Cures, for tracking down and curing your causes of it. This tells the foods, like avocado and pumpkin seeds, that can help with it due to the phytochemicals in them according to USDA (US Dept of Agriculture). Note that the above have anti-inflammatory fats in them. There are only about 15 vitamins and 60 minerals, but plant foods (none in meat) contain thousands of phytochemicals. By definition they affect your health. Over 900 have been identified already like lycopene, resveratrol and sulforophane. John Hopkins U Medical School has broccoli sprouts in stores that are patented due to high levels of sulforophane (fights cancer).

An example of one factor is mercury. I can guarantee you that if you get lots of mercury fillings and eat lots of the big fish loaded with mercury, you will be a cripple. This webpage, Losing Weight, has info on what foods are healthy and link to find out the levels of mercury in different fish. Aspartame can create symptoms that look exactly like MS or Lupus. But this is bad for health. Everything bad for health makes MS worse. Everything good for health makes it better.

The Times Online just ran an article on this:

"Vitamin D is ray of sunshine for multiple sclerosis patients"

I've been taking cod liver oil for years, but now that I've amped up my vitamin D3 intake I've noticed significant benefits. I started last fall, and have had no colds or anything, even though I went through a couple of months of eating lots of sugar and sleeping very little.

I wrote an article about dental amalgam fillings and there seemed to be studies pointing out that some MS sufferers saw an improvement after having their fillings removed.

I'm afraid that it all I have to offer, but if you want to get better maybe you could use the LoA alongside your diet?

One person above says that there is no single cure for it. Why would that be. That is because there is no single cause of it. It depends on different factors like the ones mentioned. Page 2 of the Natural Cures above has what you can do for it, but the introduction has good information like:
In More Natural Cures Revealed, Kevin Trudeau says "The facts are clear, drugs, both prescription and non-prescription, do not make you healthier, they make you sicker. Drug companies are not interested in your health. Drug companies only want you to buy and use more drugs. If you want to cure yourself of any disease you have and remain healthy, you must eliminate all non-prescription and prescription drugs."

I cannot agree with this more, and the OP must have an inkling of this to be searching for natural cures as opposed to a "magic" drug.
