Fire Up Your Metabolism : Articles : Fitness : Health & Fitness : Sympatico / MSN Pretty long but I really enjoyed the read.

That was a very interesting read. It makes a lot scense. I loved his desciption of what they were doing to him. I cant imagine trying to sleep and relax in that room. On the artical. I love to move around. It makes me want to up my workout hours more. I have been thinking about this for a while, but this is even more reason. Adrienne

Great article! I've always been very skinny and so I looked into possible reasons why. This is the first article that includes all the metabolic effects that I discovered. I often joke that my digestive system works so quickly that I can eat heaps and not put on weight because a lot of the calories are burnt up in getting those calories out of the food quickly (I've also joked that I've got hollow legs. I'm not sure I want to find any truth in that... The same goes for NEAT. I fidget constantly. I probably burn more calories while seated than some people do standing up and moving around

You can get standing desks from quite a number of companies already, just without the treadmill. Donald Rumsfeld actually uses one as his normal workdesk, as did Lincoln for a large part of his life. They used to be very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The only real problem with them is the price. When I looked for one last (I currenlty use one made out of a kitchen counter-top and 2x4s built by me) they were in the $1200+ range.

$1200+?! Without a treadmill? Yikes! I actually have a ~$AU250 Ikea desk that can be raised or lowered (with an allen key and a spare 30 mins or so). It's marketed towards graphic artists. But I don't know how I'd get a treadmill under there and still be able to see/reach the controls.
