Hey all. I'm currently making two smoothies most days. The first one is a green smoothie that I make in the morning with fruits and green veggies and some green powder. I add hemp protein to that one and it works very well. The second one is more of a "dessert" smoothie that I make at night with a banana, some frozen pineapple, raw chocolate powder, etc. I've been adding Met-RX whey protein powder to this but I'm moving away from animal products and notice some upset stomach from the whey. I'm looking to swap out the whey for something else but not sure what. Thinking maybe rice protein powder? I want to make sure to get as full of a spectrum of amino acids as possible. Any suggestions? |

I get my protein from True Protein. They offer a wide variety of protein powders, have the lowest prices, and great service. Protein Factory is also a good place to buy - they stock rice protein.

You should do a through research on your own before deciding to use supplemental protein. A lot of them have a significant dosage of MSG in it. Google for MSG and its alternative names, and match it with the food labels. You would be surprised how deceptive manufacturers can be. |

Good point, Alex! I, too, think rice protein powder is one of the best vegan choices. While it is not as bioavailable as whey or egg protein powder, it is the least hypoallergenic of the protein powders...at least at this point in time. I would definitely stay away from soy protein powders. |

Jessica, Yes and no to the soy. Organic soy is perfectly ok to use and will even cause an increase in fat loss. I am not a big fan of soy, especially for men, but in small dosages it can be beneficial. Dr. Eric Serrano, a world reknown doctor and nutrition specialist, says "no time in a man's life should he ever eat soy protein isolate". Isolates are found in nearly every protein bar. I like the Optimum Nutrition protein. Especially the chocloate mint. It's low in carbs too. Optimum Nutrition, whey protein, creatine, vitamins, sportsbars Another that is VERY hard to find, but excellent, and a little more expensive is called "Maximum Protein". http://seipharmaceuticals.com/store/...5&Product_ID=2 some GNC stores carry it. Another note about soy...I agree, I don't think men or women should take soy protein isolates...there are a few different chemical structures of soy isolates, but, essentially, that is what is in soy protein powder...they are isolating the protein from the rest of the plant. The whole soy story is pretty interesting...soy is one of the major GMO crops and is heavily subsidized and the earlier research showing positive health benefits were primarily funded by the corporations manufacturing soy products. It is a complicated issue, however, I do endorse using fermented soy products like tempeh, miso, natto, etc. Hmm...I just realized I am way off the topic of this thread...sorry about that...go whey protein! |
