Default Slightly torn tendon in elbow

I've had sharp sudden pains in my elbow for a while now, and I got checked by a doctor recently who found it was a very localised tear of a tendon. Nothing to worry about as it's not major and the pain is just.. reactive? reflexive? I don't remember quite what he called it. Anyway, the pain is out of proportion to the injury and working through/ignoring the pain is okay.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had something similar to this and if so, how long it took to heal. I injured mine by rock-climbing (indoors) and while I'm not afraid to climb with pain, I'm wondering how long it will last. Also: does heat or ice help in the healing process? I forgot to ask while I was at the docs. I've done a search but I can't seem to find much information.

Thanks all!
