What foods do I need to eat if I do not want to have to wipe myself after having a bowel movement? The reason why I am asking this is because I would like to spend some time in the wilderness and if I have to have a bowel movement I do not want to have to wipe myself.

I am amused I'm pretty sure that in the wilderness, your food choices will be a lot more dictated by what you can carry on your back and safely / sustainably pick in your environment than by the desired quality of your poop! But to answer your question, I find that a plant based diet with a lot of fats helps. When I'm heavy handed on the avocadoes and the olive oil and not so much on raw food my poop slides right out. I am way too comfortable discussing my bodily functions on the internet. |

this is such a comfy forum in actuality...the poster's desire is probably coveted by many who are too afraid to ask. i am inclined to agree with you...i definitely have problems with the wrong kinds of fats....but with a balance of whole grains, fish, fruit and salads...and i am taking many more supplements now...l carnitine tabs and energy drinks containing them seemto have made a difference. |

I can pretty much eat anything and everything and the paper always comes back clean... The only time when it doesn't is if I eat chips with spicy flavour (pringles hot and spicy for examply). But with eating other spicy food I do not have this problem. When in Mexico I eat spicy probably each day and still the same results Ow, and the only other time it doesn't is when I am flying long distance. No idea why... Maybe I am just very lucky |

Please wipe yourself. Your body will appreciate it. Nothing like a warm, moist, dark skin fold for bacteria to grow in. Bring some Wet-Ones single-packaged anti-bacterial wipes too for when things don't come out so well. From my experience you can eat most any food; what you do during the day matters more. Bring a shovel to bury your poo and paper. Pack-out the wet-ones. |

You need to wipe. Toilet paper was invented for a good reason. Carry a small roll with you. They make little flattened rolls of it just for hikers/campers. You don't need skid-marks on your cute white undershorts! If you're going out camping, may I suggest you research how hikers handle bathroom issues? You can't just poop in the middle of the trail or in the nearest pond. Feces should be buried in little latrine holes. Some parks mandate responsible feces/urine disposal. |

Eat the most constipating foods like meat and diary. Then you may not go for a couple of days and when you do go, it will come out like rocks. It does not take much space for toilet paper or baby wipes in a back pack. If you are near a stream you can clean it with your hand and water. Beavis or Butthead says "I need TP for my bung hole."

"bung hole"...i am so out of touch.... but yeah...water of some kind to cleanse in is also a good idea. have to be carefull of e coli. me personally....need running water and flushing toilets at all time...but there are so many portable wipes and sanitizers to help make "roughing it" more sanitary. i know from girlscout days...that you needed to dig a latrine and use it properly. i am not sure constipating yourself is the way to go...unless it is for a short period of time. sometime i have found the body will do that in self defense |
