Default Why does tea makes me tired?

Hello,
I noticed a weird thing.
Whenever I am drinking tea,it doesnīt matter if itīs black tea, peppermint tea or rooibos tea,I use to get really sleepy immediately after drinking it and the tiredness lasts all day.
I also get headaches, even when the sort of tea doesnīt contain any caffeine.
However, other drinks like juice or coffee donīt have the same effect.
Does anyone have an idea what might be the reason why I always feel exhausted after drinking tea?

Coffeegirl,

I don't have any solid resources to suggest, but the answer might be to look into herbalism (botanical medecine). I've listened to a few podcasts on the topic and herbalists agree that different plants have different effects on people's body depending on the individual. It's fascinating. An infusion that might give one person heart palpitations will help another person raise their body temperature, a decoction that will have no effect on most will solve a few thyroid problems (random examples, but you get the idea).

Looking into this might help you find out what kind of herb teas would have more desirable effects on you!

Try experimenting with different teas like Jesuit tea (yerba mate). Try getting more sleep. I know a great deal about herbs. If I have not gotten enough sleep and I drink coffee to awaken me, I start falling asleep. Tea is relaxing including white and green tea. Actually it may neutralize the stimulating effect of coffee. Try going without coffee and see if tea still does that to you. In fact if you stop the coffee and drink the rooibos, you will probably sleep a lot better.

Strange. Maybe it's psychological, like an association with a hot drink and relaxing? If the headaches are consistent I guess not.

In most cases, with a caffeinated beverage there's a little burst in acuity and energy followed by a lull or crash.

Of the three of those, black tea, peppermint tea, and rooibos, with each being from a different plant and only the first having caffeine, the main thing they have in common is that they're generally served hot. Are you drinking these in place of coffee? Could the headaches/sleepiness be a result of caffeine withdrawal, or do you experience them even when you have the same amount of coffee as usual in addition to tea? If the latter, see if there's any difference if you serve the various teas cold.

People with ADHD often drink caffeinated beverages to slow themselves down. My grandson has the diagnosis and a large dose of caffeine makes him sleepy. I have seen others with ADHD who respond in the same way to tea, coffee etc.

Teas are generally high in salicylate content and anything with a high salicylate content causes fatigue in those suffering from fibromyalgia on the off chance that you might.
