If I just left this question like this, many would tell about the type of exercise that they have done. I have done cardio, weight (resistance) training and yoga. Yoga and cardio will not give you the muscle tone that weight training gives you. Also it makes the bones more dense, fighting osteoporosis. Yoga makes your body more agile than the other 2 and also it helps the endocrine system glands for anti-aging. Then cardio is the best for your arteries preventing heart attacks and strokes. I got the Swanson Health Products catalog 2 days ago. They specialize in low prices. On the cover was Peggy Fleming who is a 61 year old grandmother (won Gold Medal in 1968 Olympics). She looked like she was about 21 years old! So which of the above type of exercise does she do? The catalog says that she exercises a lot and does cardio, weight training, yoga and hiking. She is on the cover of Life Extension Magazine, September 2009. This is the same picture on the catalog, but the one on the catalog is a lot bigger and looks better. It says that she eats a lot of fruit and vegetables grown on her property. Last edited by ginkgo; 09-06-2009 at 08:57 PM. |

I would say that Peggy Flemming is the result of a lifetime of taking care of her body. It would appear to me that her success lies in the fact that she has done a variety of exercise regimes plus been very careful about what goes into her body. When I went to that link you provided, I noticed CoQ10 was being promoted. That is a very important supplement that we should all probably be taking and PF has probably already been taking it for years. She is also blessed with good genes I would say. Some of us have been unfortunate in what we've inherited genetically. If you're looking for the right type of exercise yourself and are able to do whatever discipline you want, then do the lot. It appears to work. Today will be the first day I take up swimming. I need cardio more than anything else and walking is out because of a back injury. But getting back to Peggy. Yes, she does look great for 61 but so would anybody else who was wearing a wig, well made-up and sprayed with a fake tan. In all probability the photo has been air-brushed as well!
