Gah, I have that sometimes in the morning. It feels terrible, like someone stuck a plug in your nostril.

If anyone does have a good cure, then do tell.

You may just be dehydrated. Drink a lot of water first thing in the morning., and keep it up for the rest of the day.

The remedies for this are manifold and ridiculously easy to implement. I've had this problem many times myself and what I'm about to tell you has worked for me everytime.

Cut or eat some onion.
Eat garlic.
Drink a ton of water.
Stop eating dairy for a couple days (if that's your thing).
Swim in a chlorinated pool (or just swim in a lake or other non-pool body of water and blow your nose in it, no one cares).
Snort tiny amounts of saltwater, then blow your nose into the sink (this is very effective).

Don't let yourself slip into non-action because of all the options you have. Pick one or two and use it!

Olbas inhaler is pretty amazing. Simple, quick and cheap.

It is related to dietary issues since I rarely have that problem anymore unless I'm too cold when sleeping.

You can try neti. They have been doing it for 5,000 years. What the hell is neti? See Nasal irrigation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have had the same problem for many many years. At some point I was almost addicted to nose spray.

Some months ago, I discovered that a painful condition I have had for years, and thought was a strange dental problem, in fact was Trigeminal neuralgia.

I began using a Chinese massage technique to solve this problem, which actually worked miracles (Trigeminal Neuralgia,Simple Traditional Chinese Medical Massage,DVD International Sale)

Beside curing the stabbing pain from chewing with a particular tooth, it has relieved me from a lot of other annoying stuff as well:

1. I can now breath normally through my nose
2. I can flush my teeth in cold water without any pain whatsoever
3. My jaw works in a much more natural manner
4. Facial and jaw muscles are no longer cramped up
5. I have normal control of the rear part of my tongue
6. My face no longer feels cold to the touch
7. I have feeling in my gums again, and they are nice and pink, as opposed to numb and very pale before
8. My tonsils are free from pus
9. The swallowing movement feels much more natural

I must however add, that initially the massage gave a lot of pain. This was mainly related to nerve ends and facial muscles "waking up"

Regards,
RD

Snorting salt water (or taking sea baths!) are good. If the stuffed nose is due to a cold, taking a hot steamy bath with a couple of drops of eucalyptus essence should help.

My favorite remedy is hot, steaming water (just below boiling point with herbs, menthol or sea salt) and a towel over the head. Just try to breathe through your nose as best you can. Soon all will be flowing again.
