Well, its embarrassing to bring this topic here but anyway here's my problem. As I have Internet facilities here in my home, I got introduced to the term "masturbation". After knowing more about that, I just thought of experiementing with that myself. So I started having this habit last week and did it 1 time each day. But now, it becomes a habit and I started doing it 2/3 times a day. So I fear this could distract me with my studies( Iam currently doing my Engineering course) because once I get the urge to masturbate I find it difficult to control myself until I masturbate. What do you think about this issue? Please give me any advice. Thanks in advance. |

Any addiction arises because of a certain feeling or sensation a particular substance or action gives you. If you learn to find relief, or joy, or oneness in another more preferred way, your addiction to anything will fall away naturally. So, you must first identify what your addiction gives you. Then you can start to find other ways of fulfilling your needs/desires that are more pleasing to you. Baby steps. |

I second that. Meditation and emotional connections to other people are my two primary ways of emotional fulfillment. My favorite music gives me a sensation that feels better to me than masturbation, so I'll go to that first if I need a pick-me-up. No offense to you, but most of the people I've met taking Engineering don't really enjoy their studies all that much. It's only natural for you to need an outlet if you aren't enjoying what you do. |

For masturbation to happen, especxiallyfor it to really work you have to have some stimulation from some source, either through media or through some type of association which turns you on. So I feel that if you find out the source, and if you keep yourself away from that, then it would no longer be reinforce All habits have to be reinforced. so if you figure what is supportive of a habit and if you can tackle that it will be under your control Trouble is that sometimes we cannot keep away from the support structure. |

Self discipline doesn't get rid of habits. You need to redirect the habit to something else. You have to DO something. If you just set your mind to avoid the habit, it means your directing attention towards the habit. It's like trying to win the game it's impossible to do intentionally. I think exercise is the best replacement. Do some calisthenics or go for a run. I used exercise to quit bitning my nails. It was really effective. I just decided to do 5 pushups every time I caught myself biting my nails. After just one day I didn't bite my nails anymore. Getting rid of masturbation may need more than 5 pushups, work out until the urge is gone. |

Hi Success21, I get concerned reading that you just discovered the pleasure of masturbation a week ago and already treat it as a bad habit and enemy. Do you think you could find any way to allow yourself to both enjoy your sexuality and your desire to focus on your studies? I know plenty of guys who masturbate once or twice a day and actually enjoy it (even guys who are twice your age and maybe have a tenth of the sex drive that is totally normal for your age). There certainly may be reasons to take a break (like if you have spent all your money buying porn over a period of 2 years, or if you want to try out a spiritual path that suggests that all energy "should" be directed towards God/meditation), but I wouldn't throw out the baby with the bathtub. You just started a week ago - can you imagine how frustrated that part of you must be that has just found out that there is such a beautiful feeling and is now being told it was a bad habit? I am really concerned about the image your subconscious gets of masturbation if you immideately anchor it with something negative (addiction). You may actually head out for trouble simply by calling it addiction and by trying to break that so-called addiction by willpower. Yes, there is such a thing as masturbation addiction, but it is NOT defined by young men having a hard time focusing on studying once or twice a day because they feel horny. Are you addicted to nutrition only because your body wants to eat every day and gets pretty stressed out and grumpy if you don't eat when you are hungry? I hope this is helpful in any way - I just wanted to offer you a different view after several other people so quickly accepted your "I am addicted to masturbation" story. There's nothing to be embarrassed about, and I don't think it's a problem unless it interferes with your life or relationships with real people.

| I second this. Consider being less severe with yourself. There is nothing wrong with masturbation period and it can be a healthy outlet for excess energy and for physical rebalancing. When I think of someone addicted to it, I think of 20 or more times per day. |

Best way to overcome masturbation addiction for me is to workout more. I get this feel-good feeling after training but I find that feeling lessens when I have been masturbating regularly, atleast once per day. Idealy though, I think to limit the number of times you masturbate is key, like once every friday night or something, rather than to deprive a 100% natural course of action. As always, your body will adapt to whatever you make it confrom to... Stop masturbating and your body will think you do not need or want this sexual desire and gradually you will have a lowered sex drive and performance. Some people also state a reduction in penis size when they have not 'used' it for so long. This can be tragic if you enter a relationship, and may be a precursor to what may end it. Stopping masturbation altogether is kinda like voluntery penile dysfunction... Actually it is. Take it from a young man who had problems getting hard when with a woman... It isn't nice. |

This webpage tells about nature and covers this so-called problem of yours. You will learn that when the female cheetah is in heat, they have sex 60 times a day. Did you know that you can make money from masturbating? You get paid to masturbate. Then you would be a professional masturbater. If you get really good at baiting hooks, that makes you a master baiter. There is a book about how Wilt Chamberlin had sex with over 20,000 women. A little math tells you that he was having sex more than twice a day. Wikipedia says "He was a lifelong bachelor, but became notorious for his claim to have had sex with 20,000 women, a statement which has entered popular culture." You only need to worry about going blind or growing hair on your palms. They announced on the news that a study showed that men who masturbated 5 times a week or more were 30% less likely to have spelling mistakes. Last edited by ginkgo; 09-08-2009 at 01:47 AM.

You need to be very careful how you define this problem in your mind. You see sex is natural and healthy part of life and you shouldn't have any bad or shameful feelings about masturbation or sex. You also shouldn't define this as an "addiction" masturbation is more of a bad habit than an addiction. The best way to quit is by using self control and self discipline. Basically it all comes down to breaking this bad habit and replacing it with a new better one. The best way to to just fill up all your time with activities so that you don't have time to masturbate |
