Default Lungs Burn During Intense Exercise

When I play sports my chest burns and it seems like I taste blood in the back of my throat. Is this asthma? I have no trouble doing long distance running or lifting weights, because I can keep my breathing regular. I read in another thread somewhere that another person said they get this only with irregular breathing such as in sports. Anyone overcome this, or know exactly what it is?

That is not asthma. Asthma is a "wheezing" feeling you get when you struggle to breathe out. I have mild asthma but only get it if I exercise. I just use my medication before exercise to prevent it.

I don't know what you have but the blood thing doesn't sound good. Maybe you should see a doctor about it.

1. What kind of sports are you playing?

2. Did you try to see if there actually is any blood? Eg you could spit out and see if your saliva has any tinges of blood.

Basically just soccer. Don't spit out any blood, but some phlegm.

A couple sites said the lungs just get dry when breathing hard through the mouth, but it seems like there should be a way to fix this...?

Try celery juice. If you have a juicer throw some in there and drink it. It's does the following:

i also think you need to work on hydration. open mouth breathing especially in certain climates/temp can affect this feeling also.

Could be a factor. I was a little thirsty before I started.

Itīs normal during intense exersise. Whenever I do weighted complexes, highrep squats, sprints, wrestling or other intense activity I basicly lie on the floor gasping for air at the end of it. The way to overcome this is basicly proggressive overload. Suck it up, keep training, and your conditioning will get better and better.

It's reassuring it isn't just me...but do you get any of that "blood" taste in the back of your throat?
