for as long as i can remember, i have had the habit of not only blinking very often but also very hard, usually two very hard blinks in succession. i would imagine that this gives off the impression of some sort of mental disorder. while i have always been teased about this by friends, it is not something that has ever really bothered me or caused me much concern. however, as i delve deeper into personal development, i had the recent realization that this is something i can probably cure. it would behoove me to put forth the effort as i suspect that such an odd mannerism could come off rather negatively in a job interview later in life. i am pretty convinced that this isn't a physical problem but rather a psychological one. for one, there is no difference in the effect when testing different variables such as lighting and glasses/contacts. the one variable which seems to intensify the blinking the most is when i am in direct proximal conversation with another person. i have observed that the blinking significantly intensifies under this condition. this leads me to believe that this problem is primarily psychological in nature. so how do i go about curing this? do i practice blinking normally? would the tapping method help? suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

One of my MDs does this when speaking to patients but for him, it comes off as sort of scientist-y with a twist of searching for the best lay term to explain a complex medical idea. He doesn't do it around people he knows as much. I would try EFT. It's so simple, costs nothing to learn and works on almost anything. I had a weird blinking problem for about 2 months when I was in my teens. I basically had to tell myself to not do it when I felt it "coming on." It eventually went away. My eyes felt very weird for not doing it at first, as if they really wanted to.

There is something that causes Tourestte's Syndrome but they do not know what. They know that it is worse when people are around strangers and uptight. They do not know why it gets better when they get older. How old are you? Tourettes can be with sounds or facial tics only, like blinking. You can try this certain type of meditation. When I was a teen I tried over 100 different types of meditation and this is one of them. It is short and different than other types. Light a candle and make the room dark. Then you sit and stare at the candlelight without blinking at all. I have done this many times. If you do it, you learn why you blink. What will always (without fail) happen is that when your eye has gone too long without blinking, your eyes will cry. This lubricates the eyes that the blinking does. Then the meditation is over. You do it until you cry. This helps concentration and the gaze. It is called tratakam and I did it when there were no PCs or WWW. But I just did a search for you. See this for more about this meditation. Note they are not teaching it for blinking disorders. More Kundalini Yoga Basics Twitter is loaded with people that do yoga. This is a type of yoga. Yoga is not an exercise or religion. It is a science of spiritual growth. I have been doing since I was 12. See my Twitter post. Sorry it looks like the sites have a lot of nonsense on them and I got this from a book. Tratakam means training the gaze. So when your gaze obeys you say "Good boy!" and give yourself a doggie snack. My Twitter site has good yoga stuff like a book about yoga as medicine by an M.D. Oprah's doctor (Oz) teaches yoga to his patients. Last edited by ginkgo; 09-01-2009 at 08:04 PM. |
