I deeply need your help.. I have a skinny body with a messed up uneven chests... my right chest is almost twice as large as the left one and unfortunately both are muscles not fat.. so I guess it makes my task harder to burn muscle than fat But please don't tell me that everyone wants to develop chest muscles and why I want to lose them I would appreciate any kind of advice on how to lose my chest muscle in order to balance them with my body and make them even. |

I don't believe that setting such a goal is either healthy or practical. As far as I know losing muscle mass by e.g. dieting will generally reduce the density more than reduce the volume of muscle or in effect just weakening your body. Furthermore you can't really tell your body which muscles to take protein off of. I believe your best bet would be a combination of exercises on the side of your body you wish to enlarge and lack there of on the other one. You should go for volume on the side which is smaller (short, high density training for muscle mass for the desired muscle groups). Seeing an orthopedic specialist would be a very good idea as they should be able to give you much more specific and sound advice.

Do you do some kind of work or really serious hobby that causes you to use your right pectoral muscles much more often than your left? Like others have said, work your left pecs (you can find exercises online). Make sure, though, that it is muscle. Does everything feel uniform? Does it feel like there is any hard lump under there, or swelling, or uneven texture beneath the skin? How long did it take for your pec to get that big? Has it always been that way? I'm not trying to scare you, but I have never heard of a pec that unbalanced just from muscular growth, and you should make sure that nothing more than that is behind it. |

Instead of wishing for the well-muscled side to shrink, I feel it's more important why you have such uneven development. My first thought is that you're using your body unevenly. Are you doing an activity that has you putting a lot of weight on one shoulder or using the one arm more? Could you be out of balance physically and not realize it? A less likely but possible option when an area is inexplicably atrophied: is it possible the small side suffered some sort of nerve damage?

Well actually I was about to exercise only one side but I talked to a personal trainer and he said that's the worst thing I can do since by doing that my left arm would get stronger and more imbalance would result. I've had this problem for about 6-7 years and I guess it could be due to the basketball I was playing when I was a kid since I was right handed. |

But if you isolate only the left pectoral muscle, why would it create further imbalance? Even if the left arm also develops, you can do other exercises to develop your right arm as well, but avoid exercises that isolate the pectoral muscle on the right side.

Train both sides evenly. Work on your non-dominant side first, then your dominant side. If you are training with barbells, use a dumbbell for a while. This way you cant depend on your dominant side. Let your non-dominant side decide how heavy your weight is. Start working your back too. Eg. get really good at pull ups. Try to make any progress on a pulling exercise(pull ups, rows, deadlifts,) . I used to have a big chest and thin body. Now that i've started training properly, my chest looks smaller even though its the same size. My back makes my upperbody looks more normal. |
