You're might be aware that as of 2010, natural cures, supplements, herbs and vitamins will be prohibited in the EU. As of 2010, EU members won't have the freedom to choose high quality food or natural cures. In Canada, a law with similar content is proposed and the US will follow shortly. I normally have no interest in "take action campaigns" but having been informed of and then spent some time researching this, I am absolutely shocked. This is due to something called the Codex Alimentarius. I suggest you check-out this link to find out more: Codex Alimentarius Info & Videos They even have an interview with Ron Paul, the Texan Republican. This is a genuine, very serious threat to people's free choice to use vitamin and mineral supplements. Deprived of these global levels of health will rapidly decline. Please, do your own research, and UK citizens sign the petition against it: Petition to: oppose the adoption of the Codex Alimentarius (WHO/UN) proposals for restriction of the presently freely available herb/vitamin/mineral food supplements. | Number10.gov.uk U.S. Citizens, please also find the petition for your country and sign! EU citizens, sign the petitions for your respective countries! Here's another good source for further info: Codex Alimentarius - How the global elite will control your food supply | War On You: Breaking Alternative News The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), based in Rome, Italy is an international organization jointly created in 1962 by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations “allegedly” to protect the health of consumers with guidelines for food standards. Codex Alimentarius may present the greatest disaster for our food supply and thus our health this country has ever seen, and if not stopped is likely to be implemented in 2011. The Codex and its regulations affecting our food sovereignty go back to 1962. Fortunately in 1994 Congress passed the Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act (DSHEA) which for the moment preserved the definition of vitamins, minerals and herbs as foods. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and the “World According to Monsanto,” should be required viewing and are related to the Codex. In the U.S. and in the Codex GMO’s do not require labeling making in impossible to know what you are eating. Without congressional oversight the U.S. will move towards the policies of Canada and Mexico where supplements are considered drugs, not foods. Codex if implemented will reverse DSHEA and the U.S. will no longer treat dietary supplements as foods, but as toxins. For 18 years Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, the European Union and most African countries have fought the U.S. unsuccessfully to require labeling of GMOs. The U.S. erroneously considers GMOs equal to non-GMOs based solely on a 1992 Executive Order from then Skull and Bones president George H. Bush. The Codex will be enforced by the barrel of a gun. The FDA will use their power to outlaw more than raw almonds and tryptophan. In Ohio a food co-op was raided Gestapo style by the USDA because they sold a dozen eggs to an aggressive undercover agent “without a business license.” Is the FDA looking out for consumers … unlikely. Half of the 198 new drugs the FDA approved from 1976 to 1985 had to be withdrawn or relabeled because they caused unexpected side effects. Predictably no one at the FDA withdrew Donald Rumsfeld’s Aspartame sold under the trade names Equal and NutraSweet. Aspartame is a deadly carcinogen made from the feces of e coli bacteria that we can’t avoid because it’s an additive in just about every food we eat. The story gets even more interesting when you find out NAZI Germany’s notorious I.G. Farben cartel is behind Codex and the proposals that would drastically curtail our health care freedoms. Catherine Bertini, the head of the UN food programs in 1995, paraphrased the famous Kissinger statement, “Food is power. We use it to change behavior.” Is this the first time you have heard of “Codex Alimentarius?” That’s not unusual because Codex is an “open secret.” The information is available if you want to look for it but the corporate controlled media isn’t going to tell you about it until its already too late. Monsanto, Big Pharma, Chema and Agra have convinced most companies “Codex is a non-issue”, and that they will actually gain market share when Codex is implemented. So who is raising awareness about this issue? John C. Hammell of International Advocates for Health Freedom and Ian Crane an ex oil field executive. Ian lectures and writes on U.S. Hegemony and the NWO agenda for control of Global Resources. Mr Crane says, “After spending the past twelve months investigating Codex Alimentarius, I am deeply disturbed by the almost total lack of awareness (or even interest) with regard to the implications of this pernicious global Commission, particularly amongst those most affected by the excesses of this restrictive legislation.” The general lack of public awarness is well illustrated by the low traffic volume visiting his website. Ian warns of the “pernicious” effects legislation will have believing “without a shadow of a doubt” there is a plot by major food and pharmaceutical companies to see that the Codex proposals become international law. Codex is laying siege to our freedom of choice, let’s stop it. Normally I don’t recommend those take action campaigns. The ones that tell you, it’s not too late, click-here to importune our elected representatives with emails and faxes. But Codex Alemintarius is different. The inconvenient truth for our elected representatives their families and staff is they have to eat and take vitamins and supplements… just like us. So go ahead and email, fax and phone. This is one email campaign that might just work. It’s going to come down to a massive rebellion. The DSHEA law that kept the FDA off our backs was passed because millions and millions of letters were sent to people in Congress demanding health freedom. International Advocates for Health Freedom website has a “take action” page. Think buying organic will help you? Well, not as much as you think, because the U.S. currently allows for up to 10% of GMO contamination of organic foods (the highest of any country in the world, most permit 0.1%). You can make a difference by support local self sustaining farmers who refuse to use GMO seeds. And of course start a garden and grow your own food. Because guess what? …..They can’t stop us from growing our own food. |

From: Codex Alimentarius: A Serious Threat to Your Health | Natural Health & Organic Living Blog Imagine a world where you need a doctor’s prescription (and thus, health insurance), to buy your every-day organic health supplements. Imagine a world where some of your most-trusted vitamins and supplements are not even on the market! If this sounds like a bad scene from Big Brother, think again. Our government may be advancing towards giving more and more power to the Codex Alimentarius trade commission, an organization created to limit and control the freedom to buy every day supplements, vitamins, minerals, and even organic foods. What is Codex Alimentarius? Codex Alimentarius is a “trade commission” created by the UN in attempt to control all aspects of how food and nutritional supplements are exchanged through buyer and consumer networks. sourceIn Latin, “Codex Alimentarius” literally translates into “food rules.” And even though the UN claims that the goals of Codex Alimentarius are geared towards “protecting the health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade, and promoting coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations,” it is clear that this organization is more about control and multi-national profits, than protecting the average consumer. It is important to understand that this organization is not a consumer protection agency, nor a human rights agency, nor a public health organization. This organization is a trade-based commission, whose goals are clearly profit-focused. In fact, the basis of the Codex Alimentarius poses a huge threat to our basic freedoms of choice in terms of health and well-being. Where Does Codex Stand As Of Today? There is an internet rumor going around that Codex may go into effect on a global scale, this coming December 31, 2009. While we can’t verify this date, it’s important to note that this is something currently on the horizon. Because this organization has been presented as a “consumer protection” agency, there has been very little opposition to it from the media and the public in general. The public is, by and large, oblivious to its effects and intentions. What are the future plans of Codex? Codex plans to bolster extreme opposition against natural forms of medicine and nutrition. One standard which was approved in 2005 was called the Codex Alimentarius Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (VMG), a document which has the power to ban many powerful vitamins and mineral supplements under the basis of for-hire studies. This means, the organization pays scientists and doctors to tell them what is most profitable to hear. From there, more money will go to the pharmaceutical industry over natural remedies. One measure even bans Vitamin C to doses of only several milligrams per dose. Other Frightening Codex Standards Include: Steep laws governing food and nutritional supplements Laws governing our rights to grow organic seeds Laws governing our rights to buy organic produce An increase on tight FDA rules on food and supplements Why is the Government Trying to Control Our Supplements? The natural health, prevention and supplement industries represent a growing sector of the economy. As profits on natural living increase, big pharmaceutical companies, as well as big-Agro businesses, are beginning to feel threatened. If they can enact stricter laws controlling supplements, consumers like yourself, will have less freedom to choose a pro-active approach to health and healing. In this sense, these laws could potentially endanger our ability to care for ourselves naturally. |

thanks for the info, andersonx. doesn't surprise....i think a lot of us knew it was a matter of time. i work in the healthcare industry and have gotten heated response from doctors going many years back about this type of thing. now that some doctors are getting a little more preventative their doctoring, this is becoming more of threat to supplements, etc. at first, i thought ironic....but it as as you said...it is all financially based. even if doctors recommend preventative natural treatment...the pharmaceuticals, insurance companies and doctors will be benefitting more. natural remedy will be out of our reach as with traditional meds and we will be prey to the medical industry even more so. they always label everything for consumer safety. medicare is using a consumer safety tracking tool with electronic prescribing for its patients...but the incentive for the doctors offices to even utilize is a payoff in the end! we really must use our voices and fight this. I live in the U.S. In 1998 the U.S. NIH created the NCCAM (National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine). This means that the federal government is studying alternative medicine like herbs. In July 2008, the U.S. government signed a research agreement with China. The KIB (Kunming Institute of Botany) of China Academy of Sciences will be working with 2 groups at the NCI (National Cancer Institute). The Office of Cancer Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM) is overseeing the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the NCI and KIB. In plain English the U.S. is getting samples of the different herbs that the Chinese have been using for thousands of years. Alternative medicine has been growing at a steady rate in the U.S. For more free information on this go to the site below and get your free booklets. See the Journal Article/Newsletter to get the free previous newsletters of the NCCAM. |

Aggie - No problem. Please do take action and sign the petition! The only way we can stop this is by making ourselves heard. Brutha -It's called Codex Alimentarius, which I've provided several links to, and the post is about. The effect in the UK and US will be that vitamin supplements etc. cannot be sold without a doctors prescription, and it basically puts the whole industry of supplements into the hands of the huge pharmaceuticals company. It's not so much related to advertising, it's actually completely prohibiting the sale of all supplements, herbal remedies etc. |

The official website of codex alimentarius said specifically that there were no plans to do any such thing... and that it was a rumor...But certainly if you are correct it is a very bad thing...I suggest going to the website to see it for yourself.

Well of course they will tell you that even if it were true, just like the beef industry tells you that it is good to eat red meat regularly, and the drug companies push drugs for health. Profit, profit, profit, profit, and did I mention, profit?

I guess the bigger questions are how accurate this belief is....How will it be enforced? How much of this is real? I tend to distrust most conspiracy theories, and this does seem to be one such theory. That said if it is true, then it is cause for concern. Pretty hard to crack down on every single person that can and does grow medicinal herbs etc for themselves....among many other things. How well did prohibition work?

I think those emails keep going around. They aren't total BS because the powers that be keep trying to restrict our rights on many levels to choose health freedom but I keep hearing from wholistic practitioners that this is Codex thing is basically a hoax. Not that you should let your guard down. I go to my health food store, in this case Whole Foods, and talk to the vitamin lady there. They'll tell you what's what. Jennifer |

Your information is wrong. They are not banning "all" vitamins. Controversial EU vitamins ban to go ahead - Times Online "The Directive was first approved by EU governments in 2002, and health food manufacturers were given until today - July 12, 2005 - to submit detailed scientific dossiers proving their ingredients were safe. Those supplements that failed to qualify would be banned."All they're doing is trying to get approval for use of "supplements" which are basically untested, unregulated drugs of natural origins. I wish the US would think about having supplements checked for safety. People have lost money, gotten sick, suffer permanent damage, and sometimes die from "natural supplements". Nobody wants to close down pharmacies, eradicate vitamins, or prevent people from using [safe] herbal remedies. |

David Kessler, former head of FDA, wrote a book The End of Overeating reviewed by the Washington Post. David Kessler: Fat, Salt and Sugar Alter Brain Chemistry, Make Us Eat Junk Food - washingtonpost.com A portion of this book is devoted to the planning and research done by restaurant chains and food manufacturers to effect the dopamine receptors. It is a jarring revelation. Mega-corporations are working to control and effect every portion of our lives and we are in a battle to save ourselves. No joke. |

Do they have a charta somewhere that states it? Do you object to the kind of people who are in the commision? Quote:
That's really the way to get laws changed and much more effective than signing a petition with some random allegations.

In any case, I don't think it is acceptable to let governments decide what we can and cannot eat. They are in no position to judge such things. We do not know if their experts understand everything about the human body and if they can accurately predict what effect those natural supplement can have on it. There are many super-effective alternative treatment methods that are not acknowledged by doctors, and those techniques could cure the most serious diseases. This tells me there is much about the human body that western doctors don't understand. Therefore, they are in no position to create restrictions when it comes to how I can take care of my health. I suppose they also have punishments in mind for those who would break these regulations. This is unacceptable. If they would create some kind of guidelines that anyone could read and decide for themselves, then yes, it would be OK. |

You cannot buy vitamins etc in the supermarket (unless the supermarket has a farmacy in it, which most do) but you are free to buy it without recipe of a doctor. I think this is a good thing. It is not correct for vitamins and other "drugs" to be available next to the candy and coffee... people need to be informed on what they buy, if it is from the pharmasy or herbs.

Yes, I have heard about this Pharma is big business! I take vitamins and minerals and took these through an aggressive Cancer I believe they helped me My feeling (and I realize the post is not about this) is that doctors today are too ready and eager to dole out anti deps and other meds without getting to the root of the problem Sure, there is a place for them but they are not always needed Eden |

that people are not qualified to manage their own health, and that a central agency should determine what is best for everyone, despite any subtle, material differences between these persons and their diseases, ...does "good testing cost money". From that point forwards, sure, anyone is allowed perform the testing. Anyone with a spare million dollars, that is.

Finding out whether a pill doubles your risk of getting cancer by a factor of ten is nothing that you can do on your own. REACH for the Sky!. In the Pipeline: is also an interesting article on the topic of testing. |
