Default Anyone have scalp problems?

I either never noticed my scalp problems or just recently developed them, but I'm having these very tiny white flakes appear in certain spots of my hair when I go to scratch my hair or comb it. They don't really annoy me as I can wear black without any problems, so I def. don't think it's dandruff. I only have these problems on my scalp and not my eyebrows, nose, elbows, or knees so that would also eliminate Psoriasis as well. I'm just trying to figure out why my hair is flaking this? Do you think it could be seasonal? I change my bed linens, pillows, and wash my bathing towels often. Maybe my diet (I admit, I don't eat healthy or drink enough water)? I've shared the following with my family doctor and he prescribed a corticosteroid and tar shampoo without even examining my hair.

Any suggestions?

Edit: They're really tiny white flakes, nothing like big clumps of dandruff like I've seen on my friends. I don't think it's dry scalp either as I oil my hair often.

Great to improve hair and scalp and keep healthy. My hair's never been in better condition: Condition-Only Washing

Do you know of any cone-free conditioners? Something I can preferably find at a local salon or Wal-mart.

Hey Dimond: Can you explain me why using conditioner at all if you don't have problems to comb through your hair?

In these different lines you can find them, but not every one is free of them.
Alberto V05
Suave Conditioner
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
Nexxus Headress Volumizing Leave-In Conditioner
Sexy Hair Concepts Big Sexy Hair Big Volume Conditioner
Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily Treatment
White Rain
and tons more.

The point is ALL you should wash with unless you plan on using nothing but water (which many do), is conditioner. No shampoo. Conditioner is healthy for your hair and provides all kinds of benefits. Shampoo is unnecessary. To learn more, the hair forums are a great place for info. Long Hair Community and Naturally Curly are two great ones.

Would washing with only conditioner promote dandruff as my hair would be more greasy? Is washing with conditioner as effective as washing with shampoo?

No, it's suppose to relieve dandruff and you shouldn't have an issue with it again. Obviously everyone is different though. Conditioner is more effective than shampoo and definitely you shouldn't be greasy. You really should read up more on it to get a better idea of what this does.

For me, I find the natural conditioners to be the best, but most use the cheap ones with a lot of success.

Default Change is Good

Many years ago I realized that if I use the same shampoo for extended periods, my scalp will do the same thing, almost as if my skin is starting to have a reaction to that particular formula. I have several different brands that I rotate through every week or so, or even every few days, plus a deep-cleaning shampoo I use once a week to remove any buildup of chemicals.

YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT? I want a fat, juicy skull. My scalp just sticks right onto my skull like a sticker. I want a scalp that is bouncy... soft...cushiony... full of nice, rich, nurturing, juicy, protecting FAT.

But alas...

I must settle for APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, SULFATE-FREE shampoos and natural conditioners, COCONUT OIL, and chelating shampoos

Default I have this same problem.

I get a "dandruff" like occurrence right at the part in my hair (the center) and right at the sides of my scalp (near the temples of my head). It actually can be pretty thick in terms of the dead skin, but it's very fine and never in huge flakes or chunks.

I'm a guy with long curly fine hair, I work out often and do things outside often. What is a good way to take care of this dandruff issue as well as keep my scalp and hair clean without shampooing and or conditioning it everyday?

I was once told that if I want my hair to naturally take care of itself, instead of washing it everyday, just to rinse it and only wash it on days when I work out.

Do y'all believe this to be viable? Is this unhygienic?

Thank you.

I don't exactly what it is the sun does but it def. helps. I also began washing my hair with my Tea Tree Shampoo and it seems to be helping as well, it could be a number of things but I've getting more sun exposure, drinking more water, and shampooing with tea tree shampoo.

Does washing your hair too often make you get dandruff or go bald? - The Globe and Mail

In fact, daily hair washing can improve the problem. Using a shampoo such as Head & Shoulders or Selsun Blue is an effective and inexpensive treatment for dandruff. Ask your family physician about other treatment options, such as prescription-strength medicated shampoos, as well as prescribed creams or pills if the problem is severe.
Just thought I'd share.

Avoid shampoos with any artificial ingredients would be my suggestion. By an organic, all natural shampoo in a health food store.

Edit: I'd also liked to say that I have sebhorraiec dermatitis and this reduced by 50% when I used natural shampoo.

^ Could you provide me with an example?

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Retail Store: Almond Liquid Soap

Would you suggest something like the above?

I've had scalp problems ever since I can remember. They got much worse (dandruff) after I had a major brain surgery where they cut out the back of my head and then put the back part back on. I've tried everything almost, even tea tree oil and other things like coal tar, which is carcenogenic. It's not that it bothers me at all, it's just that in society, we are conditioned to think that dandruff is bad and I don't see it as much of a problem. I'm not itchy, I just have flakes most of the time.

I have dandruff ad plus some other problem, some small and some big white flakes and redness.I use Elseve's(I think it's name is Elvive in some countries) dandruff shampoo+conditioner(2 in 1) ,I think it's great at removing white flakes. But like all dandruff shampoos/conditioners,you should use it regularly.

Once finding the hair products and routines and diet etc that works best for each person, scalp problems are definitely improved by making the final rinsing in your cleaning routine of the scalp (and hair) in cold water, really cold, the colder the better.
Make it a habit and see your scalp improve and it makes hair really shiny too
