Going crazy. Cracking up. Going insane. What does it mean? Any ideas? I'd enjoy hearing other terms for it, too. I didn't quite know which forum this fits best in. I kind of settled on mental health, so the Health forum. If any mod has a better idea, please move 'er on over. |

Have you ever noticed how cancer is caused by an imbalance? Prostate cancer is thought to be caused by not getting enough sex or sexual release, lung cancer is caused by breathing in too many toxic chemicals, bowel cancer is caused by having an unhealthy diet. Well this "balance" can also be attributed to the mind and in some ways could be considered a "mental cancer". This is because there is something in a persons heart or emotions that is missing and they look inward for problems and outlandish thoughts. The most common probably being something like "What's the point?" I don't know about anyone else but whenever I've felt like going crazy their has usually been a strong external stimulus that created the feeling that it was the best way to resolve the situation or as a release of built up energy. It's a bit ignorant really. Anyway people don't go loopy for no reason. There is always a trigger. Now if you're aware enough to question your own thoughts and beliefs then you should be aware enough to understand what it was that triggered the change in your mental state then to realise that you can consciously choose how you're going to think and feel. The ones who are screwed are those who take their first thoughts as the gospel and never question them. |

There are no clinical definitions since it is incorrect terminology. In other words it is Jerky Boys talk. See one of the Jerky Boys (they make prank phone calls) called the hospital about hemorrhoids. But he was saying that his assh*** hurts and wants to know if they burn them off or if they poke them off with a stick. The nurse told him to use the correct terminology.

I feel .. sun on my face! I notice that every time I get hungry, I eat something. I hear traffic outside ! I must be going crazy, right?? I meant to inquire about the term, actually. Not that I think I might be headed there. |

I have a condition which you could call madness (now almost gone), I will give you a very quick description of it. Cause: huge psychological tension build-up, critical social context, weaknesses of character Symptom: neurological disorder in the voluntary muscles (no further details) I had this disease for 2 years by now. I haven't seen any expert for treatment. I wanted to treat myself. It was very difficult to live this whole period. Sometimes (rarely) I would almost faint, my skin would turn a white shade due to lack of oxygen, excessive perspiration (chest muscles symptoms). Also, social activities were difficult to engage in. Those were the moments when I promised myself that if I would ever heal from this, I would seek peace of mind above anything else, my precious normal state of mind. Other times I would think about suicide. The solution has been a combination of techniques, like to "let go", to ignore, to release that energy block, to relax, to breathe, and others. This is learned from experience. In the process, I learned a lot about myself. I've read books, read articles, psychology. This way I discovered this website, and others. It's an ongoing process. I don't regret my choice at all. Lesson? The most terrifying situation is to "lose your mind". Trust me. Worse than any other health disease. Do not abuse your mind. Now I eat healthy, exercise, sleep well, don't worry much. What should I worry about, when I've been to hell? |

Losing your marbles? Going mad? Star-craving crazy? And I'm not sure exactly what it meant. When I was in school with undiagnosed ADD, I seriously, honestly thought I was going insane. I thought that I would develop schizophrenia or something in a few years. Coupled with depression, let me tell you, the feeling is damn miserable. Its the worst feelings I've ever experienced and I experienced them at least monthly. When I changed my life and got diagnosed, I haven't felt that way since. |

I never use cracking up ... I have used going insane in the manner when my ex is -driving me insane -when he starts his crap again and I think to myself-why do I allow him to do this to me -again !! then I feel like screaming to 'blow' off some steam and re-gain my sanity once again at work we use the term 'break' esp when a young person first starts showing the first signs of schizophrenia so we say he/she is having their first break-that to me is very sad because it usually occurs when these kids start college | |
