i've been doing this lately and have made some interesting observations. 1. i feel alot less groggy upon awakening and usually feel a bit more rejuvenated than i do when napping without them. 2. much more interesting though is the fact that whenever i awaken, whether on my own or by my alarm, i ALWAYS feel as if i had never fallen asleep and continuously question myself whether i even slept at all. i know i did sleep because i feel rejuvenated but i don't feel as if i was actually asleep. it is very strange. has anyone here noticed either of these? |

I always sleep with earplugs now; it's one of the best discoveries I have ever made. No more annoying noises waking me up for no purpose. I do feel I have slept when I wake up; though. You don't have to really fall asleep in order to feel rejuvenated; just completely relaxing and nodding away a little bit will do wonders. |

Plugs bother me a little too. I use them for my evening nap (75 mins approx) but nto main sleep. Also I use a sleeping mask for nap. NEVER use an alarm for nap. To get to sleep for nap I just meditate (awareness/mindfulness). If I don't get to sleep for 20-30 minutes I don't mind because I know that meditation is just as beneficial if not more beneficial than napping so I'm happy to just meditate throughout my whole nap time. Although I've never failed to fall asleep in under 15 minutes by having this attitude. R |

I used to sleep with earplugs in, but they would either case me pain after a while and I'd take them out in my sleep (you know those half waking moments where you can just about move your hands before falling back asleep). Now I listen to ThinkRightNow CDs so having earplugs in would be a hindrance to their effect |

man, i really wish someone could explain what is going on. i have been napping with ear plugs for quite some time now, and every time i awake, i am so refreshed that i actually believe that i never even slept at all. its absolutely surreal. i want to understand what is going on here but don't even know where to look. another friend of mine is having the same experience, so i found it strange that no one else here reported this. my hypothesis is that there is such function within the inner ear which regulates consciousness. by blocking off the ear, perhaps you distort the mind's perception of consciousness and it think it has been awake? |

Wow, this is so interesting. I just read a blog post about earplugs. I was thinking about how I used earplugs for a while in college, because my roommate's alarm was bothersome, but they started to hurt my ears after a while. However, I think it would help a lot to wear earplugs, since I often don't sleep well and I think sounds are at least part of it. Now I come upon this post. Synchronicity! The blog post linked to this reusable earplug trial pack. I think I'll try it. Maybe it will help some of you others as well. |
