I haven't seen his opinion on it either. I've used a mobile phone before it's not that good. I think they make most of the sales to young people who want the latest phone to stay cool with their friends. Incase you are wondering I am 15.

Mobile phones are toxic. They are as damaging to the brain as cigarettes are to the lungs. I've read multiple studies on cell phone radiation and know for a fact that they are causing all sorts of health problems. I haven't owned a mobile phone in 5 years other than a TracFone I keep in my car for emergencies only. I've never had to use it. I have a distinct feeling that mobile phones will be this generation's cigarette. Thank God they aren't physically addictive...yet.

Its interesting for a lot of people to dismiss the harmful effects of mobile phones, usually the phone companies. If you look a little more broadly, rather than focus specifically on mobile phones you can find numerous links to how radio transmitters (ie. phones) can cause damage. I have personally heard people going blind over exposure to similar frequences when working on radio equipment. It is also a known fact that in high enough power/energy transmitters can kill people. You cannot stand in front of high power transmitting antennas. But sure, phones do no damage, everybody knows if you only smoke a little bit its OK. |

Can someone post some of these studies? I have not seen them. Thank you. Forgive my skepticism. It's just that tvs and computers also produce electromagnetic radiation, but clearly we're not afraid to use computers. Radio & tv stations and cellphone towers are all around us, emitting radio-wave signals, so why aren't we all sick? |

There are studies that show correlation between electromagnetic fields and cancer. Particularly concerning children living near power lines. This of course is not definitive proof of causation and thus it's more convenient to keep at it rather than change. Personally though, I 've concluded that rather than worry about such things, it's far more beneficial to focus on a healthy body. Our body is capable of and deals with cancerous cells all the time. Disease happens when it's overwhelmed. | |

Hey, ima first timer here, but I figured I might be able to add something to this conversation! Just like all EM radiation, phone radiation dissipates in air according to the inverse square law- the amount of dissipation is proportional to the distance from you, squared. That means a small distance can make a big difference to the radiation you receive! The thing you must understand is that radiation like microwaves, infra red and even light from the sun is very different to high energy 'ionising radiation'. The former forms cause damage to tissue simply by heating them up, and UVB (the highest energy of the non-ionising spectrum) can cause skin cancers by causing minor damage to DNA- nothing like what ionising radiation can do. The latter category includes X rays, gamma rays, B particles,etc- these have much higher energy and cause damage to DNA directly, by knocking out electrons in atoms and hence breaking DNA strands. Anyway, I'm a bit of sceptic but here's the main writeup correlating mobile phone use and brain cancer- Brain-surgery.us ~ Brain surgery, Brain surgeon, Neurosurgery, Neurosurgeon, Brain tumor, Brain tumour, Brain aneurysm, Brain aneurism The study drawn from this data is here: ScienceDirect - Surgical Neurology : Cell phones and brain tumors: a review including the long-term epidemiologic data The rate of Glioma (the main primary brain tumour) is still quite low so I wouldn't be comparing it to lung cancer anytime soon. If you're concerned, a good idea is to simply use handsfree and keep the actual mobile phone a foot from you, or in your pocket. Anyway, hope this helped! |

I checked cancer stats here, and since 1975 the incidence of most cancers has fallen while brain cancer has remained steady. Hmm...

Another example would be, if we use Japan as our stepping stone. Almost always do they use their phones on the right side, due to being primarily right handed, yet there is no spike in brain cancer on the right side. Isn't that odd? And if we wanna talk about people who use technology a lot, it would HAVE to be the Japanese. There is no pattern shown anywhere to lead anyone to truly believe cell phones cause anything.

^I'm not for or against phones James, I really don't know what my opinion is. I just searched out the stats to see if there was anything and that came up. I agree, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. The fact that it hasn't gone UP since then does sound like it should mean phones don't cause any damage, but on the other hand most cancers were going down so in comparison it's like an increase. Just one statistic doesn't mean anything though. There are so many factors.
