Default Nose clogged up badly

I've been having this problem for about 2 months now. It is not that I have a runny nose or (as near as I know) alergies. My nose just feel's like it has a solid mass in their and no matter what I've tried I cannot seem to blow it out of there. It is affecting my breathing when I breath through my nose, like when I'm exercising, and is annoying the heck out of me.

Any ideas what is causing this and what I can do to fix it?

A friend taught me this and it works so well for me:

Take your thumbs and press them into the crevices where your nose meets your eye. Press firmly in an upward motion (toward the inner top or your eye socket where it meets your nose) and hold for 30-60 seconds. In a few minutes your nose will start to drain.

You may have to repeat this throughout the day, but I use it when I'm stuffy and it works great!!

My sinusitis completely disappeared when I used hypnosis. One nice immediate benefit for many people is that just going into a hypnotic trance --just the trance itself, without any suggestions at all -- relaxes them to the point where tears and nose flow. I know, I know, it's a bit of a mess, but that's okay if it relieves that awful tension of congestion and sinus headache.

I also use yoga breathing.

Go to the doctor and have him look up there. If it's not a tumor, polyp or other dangerous obstruction, then the above advice should definitely be considered.

Hadn't thought of that. It started back when I got a bad cold so I figured it was some sort of remnant from that.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Last summer, I had a "cold" that lasted a month and a half. Then my mom told me to take allergy pills. (I don't have allergies either, by the way.) So I did that every day, and after about another month, it was gone.

Not sure it this would work in your situation, since you say you have "a solid mass" in there.

I used to get the same thing after I had a bad cold. I wish I can tell you how I fixed it, but I have no idea. It always lasted for a few months. What always helped me was going to the steam room.

That's happened to me before. Have you tried using nasal spray?

If so, then try putting a hot wet towel over your face and using saline spray constantly. Also try Vick's Vapor Rub.

Limit dairy. Neti pot with salt solution and 8 drops of hydrogen peroxide (3%) have been working wonders for me lately.

CroMagna's idea of using Afrin nasal spray could save you a trip to the Doc. That stuff will clear up a logjam. If it clears with Afrin, you don't have a polyp or tumor. But getting it to stay clear after the Afrin wears off is the trick. You don't really want to use that all the time.

Are you drinking enough water? My nose starts to feel stuffy when I don't drink enough. Then I power down a huge glass, and the problem goes away.

The limiting dairy option might be a tad difficult at the moment... I'd have to find some sort of a replacement for what I'm doing with working out and I'm not sure that I have the time to pursue that. Basically I have yogurt for breakfast, milk + drink mix before working out and chocolate milk post workout. Then I have milk in other things that I eat as well... bah.

@Liomona thanks for asking. Yeah drinking 4 or so 700ml bottles a day.

I haven't tried Afrin (haven't even heard of it before) so I might give that a try. Part of the problem of with the steam room idea is that its hard to breath through my nose to get the vapors up there.

Who knows, maybe I should just go to the doctor. Health insurance ftw.

Thanks again for all the tips and ideas.

I don't believe that old saw about eliminating dairy. I've experimented with adding and subtracting it, both when sinusitis used to be a problem and now that it's not, and it makes zero difference to any aspect of my health and vitality.

Cutting out dairy helped me a lot!
But i also think about the semi-allergy that is called: Histamin-Intolerance.
You can google it. You need to have more symptoms to have that, so don't worry yet.

With a new diet you can get rid of the problems, but the cause is not really known.

Don't use nasal spray to long, it is really addictive and bad and makes the nasal problems worse.

It's definitely food issues like everyone has mentioned.

Olbas Inhaler is the best product to help, but as long as you stick with unhealthy foods, it's likely to be a chronic condition.

Remiel if you are a female could you be pregnant? My nose was blocked solid, not with mucus but with inflamed nasal membranes and it lasted for around 6months. I would have preferred morning sickness any day!
If you aren't pregnant maybe there is something else that can cause the membranes to inflame....?

Didn't you say in another post that you used hypnosis? I can't find which one that was.

It's weird how so many people report having problems with food. I suspect widespread gut issues in the general population.

Yes. I tried all kinds of things to clear up sinusitis -- it was really giving me some awful pain! Neti pot, dietary changes, sprays, steam room, supplements, antibiotics, the works! I would maybe get some small relief, but nothing substantial -- and food changes made absolutely no difference at all, as I mentioned. (I had experimented with wheat products, too -- zilch difference.)

It disappeared with hypnosis. Gone. I think TIME Techniques helped, too, because my whole breathing apparatus felt cleaner and clearer and more powerful after that.

try to workout on your liver....and you will find out your allergies will eliminate or lessen....i also have many allergies before like runny nose and continuous rhinitis for months and even while sleeping...liver flushes and juicing will be helpful...avoid sugars and dairies..eat only organic foods and as much as you can juice your food or be vegan..look for books about detox and instructions about liver flushes...it will take for months but your immune system will be stronger and you will hit two birds with one stone! look also for mercola's metabolic typing diet

stay away from pollutants and chemicals...read dr. hulda clark's cure for all diseases....use natural cleansers and always clean your bedsheet and pillows...avoid toxic materials in your home...our house is more polluted than the outside...avoid to much exposure to chlorine...i got skin allergies too because of chlorine...don't use perfumes...look for natural alternative way...avoid talc powders...sleep early and have enough rest....have some sufficient sunlight exposure (find the safest hour)and most of all EXERCISE!!! yeah all of these eliminated my problem of severe rhinitis and asthma...try also detoxing and parasite cleansing...research about parasites and toxicology

being patient is the key here....don't quit if you don't see any results yet...it is just like a dose of medicine that you needs you to take it in proper time and intervals...and it is also like antibiotics that take time to eliminate bacterias...i wonder why people make reason out of like if it is bad (food additives) why we are still alive?...of course it will not make you poisoned and die immediately....oh speaking of bacterias try also to re-balance your good intestinal flora...look for natural way of increasing your good bacteria..of course the most natural and economical way not by just taking supplements...supplements will add more to your problem...capsules and tablets do contain harmful ingredients and will make your liver weaker...your liver is so important in making your body immune to disease.

Wow, you hadn't tried nasal spray? That's the first thing I'd do. You can use Afrin every 12 hours for 2 to three days. Just read the directions on the back.

Default Unblock your nose using asthma relief technique

Hi - go to Buteyko Technique Education and Forum and try the free childrens asthma exercise. ie free download of an exercise for children that will unblock your nose.

The process that your nose follows in becoming blocked is the same [in this paradigm] that causes asthma. So the same exercise that reduced asthma symptoms by 90% in hospital trials has a strong impact on the swelling of the smooth muscles in your nose/sinus.

If you have an infection in your sinus - see your doctor.

This is my first post in this forum - and I want to be clear that the site above is mine. There is more free info at nqnet.com about the buteyko method, including an article on how to unblock your nose.

To get the free exercise you have to register, and you will be offered an ebook that I wrote in 1996.. BUT - for the purpose of seeing the immediate change in your nasal swelling - the free chapter is all you need, and you can unsub straight away.

Cheers

James Hooper

Heh: have the same thing. Been using the NeilMed spray (from the same "family" as the Netipot - it's a mix of salt and bicarb of soda with warm water) and it helps a lot and makes me feel my nose is "clean". Otherwise, it's not pretty in there...

I've also read that people feel that it is a gut problem (I see someone else mentioned that earlier on) and that taking probiotics (the active stuff that is in some yoghurts - I see you eat that already so maybe it's ok) is helpful.

But, you may be unlucky like me. Just spent over $800 in the last week to learn that I have a structural defect in my nose and as a result I need an operation to straighten it internally. It's causing one of my tubinates to swell up and fill a gap that the structural fault causes which results in a blocked nostril all the time. I snore, don't breathe well, wake up exhausted most mornings. Not fussed about having some surgery (had a few of them in recent times) but if it helps me breathe better, then that's good For me, I was referred by my Dr to a Otolaryngologist and after a couple of exams and a CT scan of my head, this was my diagnosis.
Roll on 3rd of Feb...

My recommendation? See a Dr. Anything bothering one's nose for longer than a month (mine was 6 months) is worth getting looked at.

All the best,

Jenny.

LOL @ the responses.

Dude, we are not doctors. Go to the doctor FIRST so that you can rule out major health issues.

I believe someone mentioned it already, but try cutting out dairy. It's a known phlegm producer. This may help.
