My basic philosophy is that life should be 'effortless.' This doesn't mean that we should be inactive, but that what we do should be enjoyable, easy and fun. I've just been to the gym. For years, I hated the thought of going, but when I changed my way of thinking, I found that I could quite easily relax and enjoy the experience. These days, I'm alot healthier than I used to be - and alot more active! - and I enjoy myself alot more. It seems to me that alot of the health stuff I am reading about (not specifically on this forum) is causing people alot of pain. If you're not enjoying yourself, what's the point? |

hkalchemy: I believe this is the most vital, and often missing concept in all of personal development. Once you have your beliefs and definitions aligned properly almost any personal goal or self improvement idea will flow naturally through the path of least resistance and simply become a part of your life without struggle grief or guilt. We have all of these diets, and weight loss products in our country, but how many dieters have actually made a decision to be healthy? If you truly and honestly want to be healthy and radiant the once hard decisions to eat healthy become painless and even joyful. For more info on this concept research the Chinese term: Wu Wei Conversely, if what you know in your heart is the right thing to do, say for instance eat only organic fresh fruits and vegetables, but you still continue to roundy round through the drive through at McDonalds, this becomes a wonderful opportunity to discover what belief you are holding that has allowed you to continue this cycle. The idea is not to judge yourself for these decisions, but to recognize it allows you the opportunity to step back and review your beliefs and tweak or redefine them to a state of your choosing. Here is some good reading on a Westerner's point of view on the subject: The Now - Wikilicious.org Last edited by Liveformx64; 07-20-2009 at 02:55 PM. |

Well said. Healthy food doesn't have to taste bad. Cooking can and should be fun! Keeping fit should be fun: Join a club (like martial arts, running, or yoga) or find a sport you enjoy Same thing should be applied to your job. You SHOULD enjoy it! The only problem with this philosophy is that I used to really enjoy smoking and drinking... |

I've just come back from the gym and my arms are absolutely killing me from doing curls and flys but I feel good, even though it hurts. I feel buzzed and I know that its worth the pain. My leg is also really hurting, probably because I broke it and I am currently rehabbing it (who am i kidding, there's no probably there). Despite the pain, which doesn't feel good, I know that it's totally worth it because of all the cool things ill be able to do when I can walk again! I don't think improvement comes easily. It's something you have to work at. Trying new things is hard, you're not going to be good at it right off the bat, unless you're lucky enough to be a natural. Facing adversity helps to build character. Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I'll show you someone who has overcome adversity. - Lou Holtz (NFL and NCAA head coach) I guess the effortless part of your life philosophy doesn't marry up with my "work smart not hard" philosophy. | |
