It seems most of the people of this forum are advocates of being a vegetarian. I'm curious about the other end of the spectrum. Anybody here eat heavy proteins and life free weights like a caveman? If so I'd like to know your experience in diet and weight training. Personally I feel much better about myself when consuming proteins. I have higher surges in energy and generally feel more driven. My sex drive is higher. My ambitions and courage are at a peak. Even my foot feels heavier on the gas pedal! I suppose I just want to know if anybody on this forum is into getting huuuuugggeee by eating a ton and lifting heavy objects? If so, let me know. If not, why? |

I'm lifting heavy objects and eat all the time but I guess I'm not eating enough. I stay at 69kilos no matter what! I usually eat 4-6 meals per day and some protein drinks in between 'em. And yes I feel better too! And yeah I want to have sex with everything around me right now. That might have to do with my 'Master of my domain' challenge that's in progress |

I don't actually know if that's the same thing - but it's connected in my mind: Paleo = caveman

Who are you to criticize Thomas Edison? He invented the light bulb. Well you did not criticize him. I am going to do that in a moment. Are there heavy proteins and light proteins? I had a little trouble understanding when you said "life weights" instead of lift weights but you can fix (edit) it now. Eating lots of protein does have a stimulating effect just like you are describing similar to a drug. That is all I have to say about protein but you can read more about it on this page. So Thomas Edison used something that was legal. It made him feel great and do lots of things. It is the best thing for losing weight ever! It had written testimonials by thousands of MDs, the president of the U.S., the president of France and the Pope. Who am I to say that they are all wrong? This stuff will make you feel much better than lots of protein and lifting makes you feel. OK, I am done. In case you did not guess what this stuff is that will make you feel like a billion bucks according to the above people-- it is cocaine. The president of the U.S. mentioned was Grant. They put it in Coca-Cola way back (the coca plant). Wikipedia says "Coca leaves contain cocaine alkaloids, a basis for the drug cocaine, which is a powerful stimulant" and "In the United States, the Stepan Company of Maywood, New Jersey has the only license to legally import coca leaf. The company manufactures pure cocaine for medical use and also produces a cocaine-free extract of the coca leaf, which is used as a flavoring ingredient in Coca-Cola." I feel better than ever on this diet and have no intention of ever going back to cooked or meat. I recently did for a few weeks and was feeling tired, lazy and crappy. I also made much less progress with my weights during that time. I'm so glad that I'm back to raw. That's my experience.

Thanks for the responses. Meat and cocaine. My kind of discussion! I currently try to consume 1.5 grams of protein for each pound of body weight. I weigh 215 lbs. Eating strictly vegetarian, I don't think I would be able to meet this requirement anyway. One, possibly unfounded, fear I have manifested about the vegan diet is that it would lower my testosterone levels. If someone could clear that up I would appreciate it. |

Many ballet dancers are bulimic so they can stay thin. My mother could eat like an elephant and stay thin and muscular. To be technical, she was an ecto-mesomorph. There are several on this forum that are trying to get huge muscles. My experience is that sunbathing increases testosterone. It also causes hair to grow faster. The 2nd one is a medical fact. The first one is also the opinion of Stephen Arlin, raw food bodybuilder. Here is a picture of him: http://i22.tinypic.com/1gotqb.jpg The governor of CA sunbathed a lot to look tan, not knowing that sunlight had other benefits. It does produce vitamin D-- good for bones and muscles. If you are young do not worry about giving up all meat. You have a low chance of heart attack, cancer or stroke. You can do that (vegan) when you get near 40. My mother died of a stroke at 46. The doctor said that she had the arteries of an 80 year old. So I say enjoy your youth! So I sunbathe besides being high in testosterone already. At 13 I was doing bodybuilding, martial arts and yoga. At 15, I was a gymnast. I ate tons of meat and 8 glasses of milk a day. No soft drinks. Now I am a vegan but it is decades later. But I still have more than enough testosterone. To be more objective though I do take an Amazon herbal product that is anti-aging. It feeds the endocrine system glands. They produce the hormones in your body. It contains suma, maca and muira puama. IF you look them up they are known to give people energy and raise libido similar to meat and cocaine but are healthy for you. Wiki. says "Suma is said to support hormonal balance, reduce inflammation, inhibit cancer and leukemia cells, enhance immunity, increase libido, and a provide a number of normalizing and rejuvenating effects. One of the reason for its myriad effects may be its ability to increase oxygenation and energy efficiency at the cellular level." Wiki says: ""It is often cited that maca was eaten by Inca imperial warriors before battles.[13] Their legendary strength was allegedly imparted by the preparatory consumption of copious amounts of maca, fueling formidable warriors." "Small-scale clinical trials performed in men have shown that maca extracts can heighten libido and improve semen quality,[20][21] though no studies have been performed on men with sexual dysfunction or infertility. Maca does not affect sex hormone levels in humans, and has not been shown to act on hormones directly. It has been presumed that maca's hormone-normalizing effects may be due to the root's unique nutritional profile, which provides optimum levels of nutrients utilized by the body's endocrine system." Sumacazon. I guess I should have put this on thread about things being good for muscle growth. The above site says this about muira puama (potent wood) "Muira Puama is one of the most active botanicals with a long history of traditional use as an energy tonic, general health improver and remedy for impotence & sexual insufficiency. It is known in some circles as "the Viagra of the Amazon" and in fact, many people now consider it the new Yohimbe but with considerably less possible side effects." The first big breakthrough I had with bodybuilding was when I changed my diet to ~1.5 grams protein per lb of lean bodyweight like you mentioned, lots of healthy fats - omega 3, 6, 9, olive oil etc... 60% complex carbs and spread out over 6 daily meals. Also 1/2 -1 gallon of water daily. That got me from being stuck at around 190 to around 215 without too much fat gain. The 2nd big leap was from cycling on and off of (legal) pro-hormones sold at supplement shops, 1AD, 4AD etc. That made a HUGE difference. The original prohormones were banned but there are all sorts of new products. I have no idea of how safe or effective they are as I haven't paid attention to the supplement market in a few years. |

how much size did the prohormones give you and did you get any side effects? what rep range do you use 6 - 8, or 8 - 12.? or higher reps 20 plus at the mo, i am 175 but i want to get to about 240. skip la cour, ade rai, tito raymond size and i am willing to eat 6 - 8000 cals a day if thats what it takes. i have a friend who went from 183 - 237 from eating huge meals 8 times daily for about a year. i no alot of people on this site are vegans and rawists but i need all the meat and whey i can to acheive my goal. i am still yet to see a massive (not just ripped) vegan bodybuilder. my definition of massive will be natural musclemania show and upwards a guy on the internet called doggcrapp has drummed it into me that the fastest growing bodybuilders are doing 2g protein per pound and an immense amount of calories. but he has his clients do carb cutoffs after 6 and cardio 6 days a week. he is well known for putting a minimum of 25 - 30lbs of lean tissue on his clients annually. if you get a chance look for an article called cycle for pennies.then go to a website intensemuscle.com ps what does the term train with intensity mean to you? do you blast it all the time or 12 wks at a time do you beleive that the strongest bodybuilders are the biggest?

I actually wrote a post loosely based around this. I don't generally like to pimp my blog here (outside of my sig) but since it's appropriate I think I won't get too much abuse! (link is here if you're interested) I used to play American football in the UK (that's right, we have a league!) and I replaced almost all my fat with good lean muscle in a couple of months on this diet with a couple of modifications. I took 3 protein shakes a day and necked a powerful creatine ethyl ester shake before every workout. My bench went from 50kg (112.5lbs) to 90kg (around 200lb) in the same amount of time and I went from being slightly too small for my pads to convincingly filling them. I could also knock wide receivers and running backs flying too Looking over those pics makes me a little nostalgic, I hope my broken leg heals its self so I can go back to banging heads next season! |
