The above was the title of an email I got. Please note that emails like this have one bottom line. It is "send me your money." So it does not give sources nor is it very scientific. It is from an MD, Jonathan Wrong! Actually Jonathan Wright. Rest of beginning of email says: "You've been told to avoid it at all costs. But-- This 'forbidden' food could be the biggest health breakthrough of our time Your whole life, you've been warned that this substance can wreck havoc [should be wreak havoc] on your health. But the bad rap could be for nothing. Because research proves this shunned food: * plummets LDL cholesterol by 25% while raising HDL up to 29%--it's been proven in three separate studies to beat the most-prescribed prescription drugs * decreases tooth decay by 80%--without having to drop any of your favorite foods * reduces blood clots without the dangerous side effects of aspirin * cuts sinus and ear infections by 93%--you can actually feel it working in minutes. One pioneering Texas doctor says the results are so dramatic, his patients forget to keep using it! And you should see what else it can do for your heart! How can one food--especially one we're told to stay away from--do so much? More importantly--what is it? And how can you get your hands on it?" [End of pitch] This forum has a thread-- 14 day challenge-- No Sweets. Now I guess I am a very bad man, like Babu said about Jerry Seinfeld since I am trying to hurt this guy's income. Or as crybabies say "I am raining on his parade" since I will tell you what he wants to sell you. I call it "tell instead of sell." It is misleading since it is not one thing but a group of things. It is what the guy above is trying to avoid for 14 days. I looked up some of this stuff myself since the internet is free. They say that nothing in life is free. But what about the air you breathe, the internet and some information. It is sugar that this MD is talking about. The stuff that reduces tooth decay by 80% is xylitiol. It used to be in food for diabetics and is in some gum but they also add the fake sugars. It slashes ear and nose infections by 93%. Why can't they sweeten soda and candy and cookies with this? Too expensive? Too healthy? The D-mannose is the sugar to fight bacteria but fasting is the best way to fight bacteria. It causes the body to consume itself but consumes the infections first. The other main one he is talking about is a sugar cane extract. I found that it is called policosanol. It is a supplement that research shows helps the heart in 5 different ways according to the selling pitch. It is supposed to work better than the poisonous statin drugs but I think that you have to be crazy to take statin drugs. It appears to be the biggest rip-off of doctors and drug companies. Of course people are to blame also. They tell their doctor that they do not want to exercise, do not want to improve their horrible diet and do not want to stop smoking so they want a miracle drug instead like Vioxx. Here is the pitch about policosanol. I am not saying that it is not true but maybe exaggerated since he wants you to pay him a lot of money for a couple of pages of paper every month (information newsletter). If you have been getting the newsletter of 2 years or more and think that it is worth it let me know. " *Cut TOTAL cholesterol as much as 17%... * Slash LDL cholesterol by 25%... * Raise HDL ("good") cholesterol up to 29%... * Drop dangerous triglycerides as much as 18%..." Also guaranteed to help you live twice as long as normal-- to 150 instead of 75 years old. That last one was a joke. It is free humor therapy. Did it fix your health problem? One year's subscription is $37 dollars but the above is what you really need to know unless you are rich. Last edited by ginkgo; 07-10-2009 at 12:18 AM. |

The problem with many sugar alcohols (maltitol, sorbitol, etc) is that to many people in moderate-to-larger quantities it causes upset in the lower digestive tract. Anything from the toots to runs to IBS symptoms, depending on the person. Quote:

Curious about sugar alcohol sweeteners? Candy, cookies, and other sweets are on the market right now (in the Diabetic section), so you can try them if you like. But be careful about not having more than a handful of them at a sitting though... you've been warned.

"If it ends in -ol, and it's a sweetener, odds are it's also a sugar alcohol. " Policosanol is not sweet. It has been sold as a health supplement for many years. They were stretching the truth since it comes from sugar cane. It is a sugar cane extract. It would be nice to see a link about xylitol causing digestive problems. "Anything from the toots to runs to IBS symptoms, depending on the person. " I never heard of toots. Is it like when you toot your own horn. From Urban Dictionary: toots derogatory or pet name used for a woman, i.e. dame, broad, babe, skoit, sweetie. However, the word comes from the candy- "Tootsie Roll." The name "Tootsie" is short for Tutankhamen, the King of Egypt during the XVIII Dynast. The Tootsie Roll is also sometimes given the racist pseudonym "******-roll"- which is obviously horrible- however unknowingly accurate since the candy is already a euphemism for this. "Hey toots, come take a look at this **** I left in the toilet!" get this def on a mug Mug by Aron Taylor Jan 12, 2005 share this 2. toots Term of endearment roughly equivalent to baby. Note: Only applicable if you live in a black and white movie. Him: Hiya, toots, whaddya say we blow this joint and head over to the speakeasy? Her: And how! get this def on a mug Mug baby slut ho chick fox tramp whore by -Al- May 7, 2008 share this 3. toots 1) A girl who rudely farts (or sharts) in her pants in a repetitive fashion. 2) The name given to any girl who is so unsuccesful that they convince themselves that their entire life is a lie and thus projects this onto every person around her. The only way it will change is if people refuse to buy things sweetened with HFCS and other nasty stuff.

Also the little 20 fl oz bottles of soda cost around $1.40 whereas the 2 liter (half gallon or 132 fl oz) bottles cost 99 cents. The cost difference is the little ones are kept cold in the refrigerator whereas the big ones are kept in the store anywhere. Now I can understand that for electricity costs and refrigerator space is limited. Also the refrigerators break down and need repair that cost money.
