Default Getting rid of mercury in your teeth

Has anyone had a dentist remove your old mercury base fillings? I am scheduled to do it next week and I wanted to hear the pros and cons.

I had them all replaced with composite fillings over time. From what I've read though, you should only replace them if it's really necessary. Just replacing them for the hell of it is not recommended because they're not considered to be a health hazard. I think most of mine were pretty old though, and chipping at the edges. A problem with them is that x-rays can't show what's under them (like, if there's any decay), so the dentist usually will replace them if they don't like how they look.

I assume you're having a dentist who specializes in this area do it for you, rather than a normal one who is apt to release a good bit of the mercury back into your body during the removal process.

The selling point for having it done is that supposedly mercury continually leaches from the fillings into your body so long as you have them. The main drawback to having them removed is what I mention above, which is less of an issue if you see a specialist. I haven't had this done and it isn't currently a priority for me.

Here's a good site I just came across that may be of use:

Should I Remove My Amalgam?

"If your dentist wants to replace some amalgam because it is old and cracked, you could become ill if you allow him to do it. Will he use precautions while removing it? Not if he is a regular dentist, or even a mercury-free dentist. Now is the time to seek a biological/ holistic dentist who will protect you from mercury vapor and will be more knowledgeable about replacing the amalgam with a safer material."

Thanx for the input!

I know there are risks, but as the article says in your link it has to be done sometime, and right now is a good time for me. This because I have a new corporate insurance where the cost will be zero for me to do it. I am also still young and healthy so I thought better to do it now than to wait.

I live in Japan right now and went to this really high tech dentist. I am not sure he is a specialist in this field but said he could do it.

Dr. Mercola suggests chorella fro removing mercury from the body. If you want mercury fillings themselves removed, you have to see a dentist.

I know that Alpha lipoic acid is a pretty good mercury chelator for the body system . It's used in Germany for treating diabetic neuropathy and metal toxicity . Supplementation for general anti oxidant purpose can be easily found on the shelf . It usually comes under 100mg/pill . A good mental energy booster based on my personal experience . The richest source of ALA seems to be in red meat ( oh dear .. )

I've had several amalgam fillings replaced by a normal dentist and never had any ill effects. The only difference I've noticed really is that the new fillings match the color of my teeth, which looks better, but only when I open my mouth wide and stare into a mirror. I understand the new fillings are supposed to expand and contract less than the amalgam fillings, which means there's less of a tendency for them to cause your teeth to crack.

i think silver fillings are worse for people than white. Plus they don't look as cool.

I've heard that having them removed can be hazardous if not done properly. I had mine taken out by a conventional dentist due to insurance coverage and didn't notice any repurcussions, but Dr. Mercola says he suffered kidney damage from the same procedure. I took a lot of chlorella and cilantro before and afterwards.
