As i turned 18 and going through life ive always felt bad about one thing my weight, my family growing up were all huge big time corporate ******** to say the least. Ive always been alone and have always had to feed myself so growing up i obviously ate to my own degree. ill cut to the chase, im 279 pounds and 6 feet tall. now you probably like holy crap thats one fat kid, i agree but ive never really payed mind to it. ive always been surround by really good friends that ive known for the last 5 years or so. these are really close friends like brothers really and they've never had a problem with how looked. Thankfully ive been born with a very large and strong bone structure that help balance out the weight and ive always been a hygiene freak. ive come to the point now that im starting to hate who i am even though everyone else cares for me. i want help, no i NEED help. i want to feel good about myself again and wear my suits like all my friends. in fact one of my friends had been living in japan for the last few months for his family business and he told me he did a 3 week straight water fast and he felt great, more healthy and stronger afterwords with proper exercise. ive tried exercise and all these diet but hell i have a personal chef how can someone diet like with that. im heavily, heavily thinking of doing this for my own personal happiness and health. i beg for anyone who has done this to give me the guide lines such as when to drink how long can/should do this with my weight and if being overweight can be a problem with this sort of body healing. Also your all probably like if this guy has all this money why doesn't he go hire his own team of Buddhist monks to help me with it, well as i said i has terrible parents who if i want will go buy me a 60K4 car to show off but they'd spend dick all on trying to personally help me i see them probably once every month because there always away. So i come here to ask for honest answers with no judgment or pressure, thats why. thanks everyone who reads this and understands!

| The bible has 74 references to fasting. It was done by Jesus, Moses, Buddha, Gandhi and Mark Twain. This site has information from the book Fasting: The Ultimate Diet by an MD. There other fasts like juice fasts. Beyonce lost 20 pounds in 10 days on the Lemonade Diet. That might be easier for you to do and for losing weight. Also this above site has a page with all sorts of tips on losing weight or keeping off once you have lost it. Here is one tip. Do not drink water. Just drink green or white tea. I has 4,000 chemical compounds in it including EGCG that boosts metabolism.

Extreme fasting is a bad idea. If you are currently at an unhealthy weight, depriving your body of nutrients might just make you sick. You should already be in decent shape if you're going to try something like that. Establishing a healthy diet is the only sustainable way to keep a healthy weight. There's no getting around that. Don't take your personal chef for granted! That is an amazing asset to have in your quest to lose weight, not a hindrance. Tell them to design a healthy meal plan for you. Fasting is seductive, as it seems like a quick fix, but the truth is getting in shape is a long-term process. |

Once you stop the fast, the weight will come back. I would also suggest you get your chef to start making healthier meals. Vegan or rawfood would be good. I always wished for a personal chef, eating healthy can be a big pain in the butt. I think you should look at possible emotional eating to fill a void in your life. Although you say you have great friends, that is wonderful, but it must be painful feeling your parents were too busy for you? Be aware of your thoughts, emotions. Try journaling. Alternative methods of healing could also be helpful. Time techniques, hypnosis, reiki among others. Good luck! |

Zoodles: Don't give in to fad diets, starvation, or extremes. Get a sensible eating plan, summon your self discipline, and work towards a slow steady loss of 2 or 3lbs a week. Quote:

the first thing you need to do is see a doctor to make sure you have no underlying health problems before you start any diet or exercise plans...you may be even be given some diet guidelines... fad diet and fasting is not the way to go now. starting with just walking everyday has been proven to be a good exercise start for anyone...and portion control...maybe several small meals a day...fruit and veggies as snacks. water is not a bad thing...sometimes when you think you are hungry, you are dehydrated and it fills you up...so drink it before eating. good luck! |

hey zoodles although fasting is a very effective and healthy practice, I'm not sure I would recommend it for you. It might be too much of a quantum leap from where you are currently at. If you make too big of a change too fast, chances are you will revert back to old habits out of frustration. I've always found that my eating habits tend improve all by themselves when I make small changes in my thinking habits. You may want to consider doing some personal inner work related to your self confidence, self-esteem, and self-love in addition to your gradual diet change. Otherwise, your new habits might not stick. People tend to sabotage themselves via their diets when they don't feel good about themselves. Often the key to lasting success is to feel good about yourself first, and your diet will follow. Good luck my friend! kb

Hey Zoodles, At the moment I work at a gym and am studying to achieve my personal trainer's certification. If you decide on doing the Master Cleanse, I'd highly suggest doing your own research first and getting acquainted with all the details. I've done the Master Cleanse for a total of 19 days and lost around 15 lbs. Just remember, it's just a cleanse and is not meant to be something done for a long period of time. My recommendation for you, however, is not just to do a cleanse/fast/diet, but rather to get committed to exercising regularly and eating healthier. Set a goal and work at it. You can also do research about goal setting if you haven't already done so. Start slow and begin by developing the habit first. Remember, everything is mindset. You don't have to jump into doing all of this at once because I've seen way too many people jump into everything simultaneously and fall off quick. After you have developed the habit, feel free to make your adjustments and learn better ways you can achieve your goal. Also, none of this has to be a tedious task. Trust me, if you can't find ways to make it enjoyable, you will find ways to stop. Search for ways to make it fun--this is key. If you like cooking or preparing meals, find recipes that are healthy yet appetizing and make it. For exercise, take up a hobby or sport that appeals to you. Go play basketball, go for a swim, learn how to play tennis, whatever it is that resonates with you. Wish you the best and feel free to be in touch!

I think you should drink 5 litres of water per day. Sounds much? Well, I wouldn't suggest anything less. Read that in a book about yoga I really trust, so... You should drink in small intervals. Like a glass of water every 20 minutes. You should calculate like: 25cups/16 hours of wake time = 1.5625 cups per hour which means you should drink 1 or two cups per hour while writing down every cup you make as I assure that drinking 5 litres of water is minimal and if you don't have the discipline to drink all the water than rather don't On the bright side I could be wrong and it might be three litres. But I still strongly recommend that you go for 5. On even brighter side I tried it and lost 3 pounds but I'm at ideal weight which means that it really works wonders at higher weights. I'm sure you'll succeed and good luck!

I would not suggest a fast for weight loss, your metabolism will slow down even more, you will lose muscle mass, and as soon as you start eating like a normal person all the weight will come back, and a few more pounds on top |

my 2 cents: eat little, eat often, exercise regularly. I know people that have lost lots of kg or lbs and have been eating 3000kcal a day. The combination of what you eat, how much you eat and when you eat is key. If you stop eating, your body's metabolism will slow down and try to store every little calorie you give it for later. If you want to fuel a fire for the whole night, you don't put all the wood on at 6pm. Carbs are not a problem, carbs give you energy. Not all carbs are created equal though. Protein is good too and fat is often overlooked but essential in a balanced diet. On carbs, you want low GI carbs, not refined white sugar. High GI carbs are more likely to cause you to gain fat. My choice is oats. I eat lots and lots of oats. Oat based cereals in the mornings, oat flapjacks with honey and fruit and finely ground oats with my protein shake after a gym session. They are brilliant. You are going to need to exercise and if you don't have plenty of carbs you aren't going to get anywhere. On protein, there are probably people on this board that say you don't need it, they're probably right. I take it because it helps me recover from exercise. Don't waste your money on expensive branded protein shakes though, they are usually packed full of sweeteners which will counteract what you're trying to achieve. On fat, everyone thinks fat is bad. Truth is it is important in the building of your brain and eyes (amongst others) but it has to be good (or essential) fat. My test is if it's liquid at room temperature then it's ok. Things like olive oil, vegetable oil and nut oils are fine. Any fat which is solid is bad and should be avoided. This is generally animal fats. Cut them off the meat and minimize your intake as much as possible. Unsalted nuts are an excellent snack and full of essential fatty acids. Ratio wise I go for 40, 30, 30 Carb protein fat but feel free to improvise for whatever is best for you. My 6 meals a day are Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Linner, Dinner and Dupper. Each are around 400 - 500 calories and I try and keep them all as balanced as possible. You might want to try 300 - 350 though. For example: Cereal with fruit and milk and protein shake followed 3 hours later by a big serving of flapjack (the english version, i remember there being a difference), lunch would be greens and chicken salad with olive oil dressing, approx 2 hours after lunch i'd hit the gym. protein and carb shake immediately after workout, dinner would involve some kind of fish or low fat meat and veg. Lots of room for experimentation I often flash stir-fry the veg in a very hot pan in light oil or have it as part of a low fat curry. Lay off the hollandaise sauce though There is so much scope for variation in this type of diet. The important thing is to eat small portions, you should never be full, eat often, I eat every 3 hours (even if you aren't really hungry), and exercise on a daily basis. Even if it's just for 40 minutes a day. Get into a routine and be prepared to stick with it. This won't drop kilos in days but it will be a change that will lead to a considerably healthier lifestyle. Hope this helps and best of luck. |

| If you go to the website that I mentioned then you can find out what is going on from people who know, not from people who do not know. But it is your decision where to get the information. It all comes down to psychology and intelligence since your mind makes your decisions Do you care enough about yourself to find out about fasting or not? You asked about it. I did not suggest it. I am not saying that you should do it. I am saying that you should find out what it is about before making a decision. That site above has quotes from 19 different MDs about fasting. It also discusses if your metabolism will slow down or not and other things mentioned above. Note that I am not overweight and I fast and my metabolism slows down. But it explains why people as heavy as you are, do not have a slow down in metabolism. See, the body is smart, not stupid. I do not know where you are from, but in America if people go doing something without learning about it, it is called going off half-cocked. So I suggest that with this and anything that you do, that you learn about it, before deciding or you will suffer the consequences. Note that the lemonade diet is also known as the master cleanse or the master cleanser lemonade fast. Nno matter what you call it, Beyonce lost 20 pounds in 10 days using it. The site above tells how to lose weight even if you do not fast. But like anything else, you have to read it and learn it. Now as far as the quote above about gaining the weight back, it is not an automatic thing. First you will not get fat the next few weeks. Then if you decide to eat a better diet, you will not gain the weight back. It will be up to you. Say you go to church once. Does that mean that you will never go sin again? Say you murdered someone and go to church. Does it mean that you will never murder again or you will? It is up to you. You cannot control the future, only what you do now. The guy who wrote that book about the ultimate diet helped thousands to lose weight. Oprah's doctor had an obese patient and sent him to Dr Fuhrman to lose weight. He has fasted thousands of people. The site above (if you take the time to even look at it) tells of a study done with overweight people and how most of them did NOT gain the weight back, although some did gain some of the weight back. It also tells about the New England Journal of Medicine saying that fasting is a good way to lose weight. Discussing losing weight will never cause you to lose weight. Why not try fasting for 24 hours. That is one day. Then you will learn about yourself and fasting and your desire for food. If that is too hard then try going 10 hours without eating any food (not including sleeping). If you decide not to fast, then you can learn many things that you can do for Losing Weight. But again you will need to take the time to learn. For certain, if you keep doing what you did, you will keep getting what you got. Is it good enough? Do something today. Walk around the block. Then you did one thing to help. That MD that fasts people, wants them to walk an hour everyday on the fast. You can do that even if you are not fasting.

I'm gonna share my own experience of losing weight: In september last year I decided I'm gonna lose some weight. I'm 5' 10" and I weighed around 176 lbs at that time. Started swimming and taking walks I started swimming for about 40 minutes 3 times a week and sat in the sauna for about 15 minutes after that. I started taking 30 minute walks at nights a couple of times a week. Changed my diet I used to eat meat with every meal every day and loved it. Instead I started with pretty much no meat. I pretty much ate an all vegetarian diet except for one or two meals per week that had meat in it (that includes all animals). I quit drinking soda and milk, ate "clean" food with no additives and cut the portion size to about half and ate every 3 hours. Loads of lentil-soup, hard bread (the stuff we have here in Sweden), baked potatoes, vegetarian burgers and loads of salad and beans. Started working on my mindset For every stroke I took in the swimmingpool I said something uplifting in my mind. Something that I wanted to change. I started reading inspirational books. Unlimited Power by Tony Robbins and The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari and stuff like that. All that has become an upwards spiral with my mind working with me instead of against me. I think the most important part was the mindset thing, when you see the physical change combined with the better mindset to things you just want to keep going further. Around christmas I weighed about 143 lbs and was feeling great, I still am. Now I gained about 10 pounds of muscles since I've started do some weight-lifting instead of swimming. PS: There is no shortcut to better health. You just have to kick yourself in the face and ****ing do it. PS2: Since money ain't a problem for you it should be easier for you to buy high quality food and good books. I've had some struggle with getting good food and books since I don't have much money after paying rent and bills. Last edited by kattsand; 07-05-2009 at 10:44 PM. |

MightySunTzu successfully lost 20 pounds by fasting. I plan to start fasting tomorrow. I think it's excellent for weight loss. The fat will stay off if you eat healthy and exercise afterwards. The lost weight will motivate you to keep it off. Do research on fasting and ask your doctor.
