Default Food Combining_30 day trial

I'm on day 3 of a thirty day food combining trial. My basic premise is to eat raw during the day (mono meal of fruit for breakfast, salad with raw dressing for lunch) and either a starch or protein meal for dinner (vegan, natch!)

The information I have read is conflicting in nature, especially regarding pulses, which I have read are a starch and NOT a protein! Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Also any shared experiences or tips would be really useful!

Love and Peace.

Hey, I don't think I can answer your question about starch, but I do recommend that for breakfast you get some complex carbohydrates. Fruits I believe are mostly simple carbohydrates which burn quicker, whereas complex carbohydrates last longer and would make sense to eat for breakfast to get a day with plenty of lasting energy, rather than just a morning rush. You can eat fruit for breakfast, but try to also have something which is complex carbohydrate based.

I just eat beans with wholemeal bread, but you are trying raw, so you'd want to find something else.

I recommend, if you haven't already, try doing a bit of research on complex and simple carbohydrates.

I just wanted to add that with a plan like this, green smoothie in the morning might really help you out. In my experience, it gives you cleaner and more long lasting energy than whole grains for breakfast. Plus, sweets are really not good with carbs, since you want to combine food the right way. I would stick with root vegetables like sweet potatoes for dinner and some lightly steamed veggies or raw soup. That's how I would eat full time, with the addition of some nuts and beans in there. Nuts could be added as a snack or as dessert for lunch and beans could be substituted for potatoes at night. At the moment, adding in a bunch of whole grains and beans are definitely cheaper for me, than eating mostly veggies and fruits. Once money is not as much of a concern, I'm definitely switching to this plan

Default Progress so far

Thank you so much for the tips.

So far, I've had the following progress.

* weight loss of 5lbs! I'm not over weight, so this is odd, as my calorie intake has remained the same if not risen

* yellowing of the tongue

* slight cold like symptoms (although this could be coincidental, although I rarely get colds since turning vegan (thanks Steve!!))

* increase in energy and positivity (although this could be psychosomatic)

* decrease in appetite

I have read aroudn the subject if legumes/pulses are protein or starch and the slight majority of literature available says starch.

Not sure if I woudl eat beans on toast at this stage, as it would probably defeat the object of my 30 day trial - however, I will see if fruit continues to be substantial enough for the longer term.

Thanks again for the tips - keep them coming!

Doug Graham has a fantastic food combining chart on his website for $5:

FoodnSport | The High Energy Diet Nutrition Guide

He is into low fat raw, but other foods are also included on the chart.

It's a great idea to test this out, to me correct food combining (or mono eating) makes a huge difference in my digestion and how I feel.
