Hello there! I'm adapting to the Uberman's polyphasic sleep schedule - 20 min nap each 4 hours. I'm facing a serious challenge because at day 3, I have twice overslept 9 hours, which means a complete setback and going through adaptation all over again. The challenge is, my body won't regain consciousness. It will just go around the room turning alarms off and then back to sleep. Do you know any way to go around it? How can I ensure that the alarm clock wakes me up? It has to be something quicker than getting it habituated like Steve did when implemented early rising. Do you know any special alarm clock PC program by any chance? Cheers dudes! Ralph |

Hi Ralph, I had the same problem when I tried to adapt to polyphasic. I couldn't find a way to avoid oversleeping and broke the experiment off. I'd need someone who lives with me and keeps me awake. So I guess I can't help you, sorry. |

Yeah, I'd guess it needs some habit-ingraining. If it were me, I'd probably do it in stages - like begin with sleeping 4 hours at a time, then once that becomes normal (I've been there, and it wasn't too hard to get there), get down to an hour at a time, or 2 hours. Some graded entry.

I only have what I know from my own experiments. I experimented with sleeping until I woke up, and getting up immediately. My sleep time turned out to be about 3 1/2 - 4 hours. It was pretty consistent. Once I got used to doing it, it felt pretty natural and I always felt rested. I've never tried to get it lower than that. I didn't use an alarm at all, I just got up whenever I naturally woke up. How did you get down to 90 minutes? Is it working out for you, ie you feel rested and alert?
