| Recently I was having a conversation with someone who was trying to convince me that cell-phones and EMF radiation were hazardous to our health. I said that may be, but the radiation we experience is probably so small, its effects are negligible. Nevertheless, his conversation stuck in my mind and I decided to do a bit of research on the net to see whether his argument was valid. I found a few links which were interesting: Grave_cell_phone_dangers_revealed.htm Cell phone industry - big tobacco? Cell Phone Radiation Dangers A search on google scholar Even found some links to some devices (snake oil?) that claim to "protect" us from that radiation such as this one (qlink) and this one (biopro) I have two questions that I am posing to this community. 1. Do you think a real danger exists or is this an attempt to spawn a shadow industry? 2. Do you think the above products have merit or are merely snake oil?

| It's hard to tell for sure. People have their agendas as usual and you know how that goes. If a study shows the opposite of what they are expecting, then they discount it. I would say if you want to prevent radiation going to your head, you'll avoid cell phones. There is radiation going to your head, there is no doubt. Cell phones transmit radiation and you're putting it in your ear (a perfect entrance for the radiation), and you're allowing it to go into you. Sure, it may not be hazardous in small amounts, but what about the people who use cell phones habitually? I use mine once or twice a week tops. I don't like it, and maybe I'm biased, but if high power lines can cause cancer, why couldn't a cell phone? Sorry for not answering your question: The products have merit if you believe they have merit. BUt anyway, it doesn't really matter either way. Those things will all be dust in the next hundred years, and so will your physical body. Sooner or later, what's the difference? Prolonging a subpar life is worthless anyway. So, if you are so inclined, try not to worry about that so much. Last edited by Andrew Brunelle : 01-21-2007 at 08:03 PM. Reason: I had to. | Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much. Within the next 5-10 years our cellphones are going to be nanized (nanotechnology) - they will be in our tooth or in an earing or something. They will no longer have all of the electric circuits that create the harmful radiation. |

| I don't like using my cell phone, either. Whatever studies are out there, I figure that staying away from the cell phone is a good idea. But anyway, does anyone know whether (in terms of radiation) a cordless phone is better or is it just as bad as a cell phone? |

| Here's a great article by a neurologist. It has plenty of references and is scientific in its approach. Basically, you're safe. NeuroLogica Blog » Do Cell Phones Cause Brain Tumors?

| Cell phones have been in widespread use for long enough that if there was a real risk of health problems, there should be clear scientific evidence by now. The problem is, though, that the evidence is not clear. Studies point both ways. So, in my book, I assume that there may be a minimal risk but it's not worth worrying about. I also would not spend any extra money to protect myself, but if you search you can find lists of phones rated by how much radiation they produce. That way, you can choose phones with less of a risk than others. By the way, I carry a cell phone 24x7 and it's always on and gets used very regularly.
