Arrow The Master Cleanse -- has anyone tried it?

Has anyone tried The Master Cleanse diet? I've heard a lot of good things about it, but want to get some responses on this forum. Thanks!

I'm now a little skeptical about all forms of fasting because there is huge risk of deficiency on certain nutrients like Vitamin B12 , Vitamin D , Omega acid 3,6 and more if it's done on a long term or regular basis . Check out the danger of fasting by Dr BENKIM.

I have a good friends who tried it for four days and told me about it. She says she definitely felt cleansed, but she couldn't go through with the whole 10 days (I think it is). She also had to rearrange her schedule around her bathroom breaks, which doesn't make it too practical for most...

I just finished my first Master Cleanse and have gone straight from that to a second attempt at a polyphasic sleep schedule. I made it 22 days. Ten is the minimum recommended, forty is the most, but I was definitely concerned about my body's need for proteins.

Everyone's experience with this seems to differ, I seemed to be lucky in that I did not have nearly as difficult a time as it seems others, including my wife, have had. I was obsessed with food during the fast, watching the food network constantly, and am looking forward to cooking a million different recipes I looked up or saw done during that time. I did not get the tongue coating other people sometimes get. I had headaches the first few days and I was irritable the first week. I lost 26 lbs (Going from 236 to 210), my mental clarity was extremely sharp and my energy levels were really high. I did grow weaker physically, as my body was in starvation mode and so was also taking from my muscles as well as fat. My metabolism slowed to a crawl, the last six days saw me lose only two pounds where the first week I lost ten and almost that the second week.

I do expect to gain nearly half the weight back, hopefully less if I am on good behavior, which so far, so good. My reason for doing the fast was to give my digestive system a rest after years of eating badly, and to hopefully reset the way my brain relates to food. Again, so far, so good. I appreciate food in a different way now, and no longer want to fill my face with cheap processed food. With polyphasic sleep the plan will be small, high protien meals after each nap, followed by some type of activity meant towards putting muscle back on so that my body can metabolize food faster and better and I can continue towards a goal weight of around 170.

I think it's definitely worth trying to see if it's something you can do. Read that forum to get support and a great deal of helpful information, start on a three day weekend so that you aren't freaking out too badly during the weekdays at work. Mentally it gets tough to slog through the same drink concoctions day in and day out, but it really payed off for me. Like I said though, I seem to be more of an exception than the rule.

Hope that helps.

Yes...I did it for 9 days. If you want to cleanse your body and loose weight then it will do it for you.

It requires lots of discipline because you will need to make your lemon juice, grade b honey and cayenne pepper concoction every day to drink and it does leave allot to be desired in the way of taste.

If you want more info here is the site that I used to do my research before I started the program. BTW...don't let name of the site fool you...there is some good info here.

Master Cleanse Journal #1 - The Lemonade Diet - From Yes They're Fake!

And one tip if you can't take the taste of the pepper in the concoction then you can always take your pepper in a spoon and chase it with the concoction.

Hope this helps

I put this together for my own use. Posted in one of my public/online journals.

Note that it is about grade b maple syrup (grade C if you can get it!), NOT honey. Check link to Master Cleanse full/free book!

Some organized material for detox/health:

The Master Clenase/Lemonade Diet
- Full book available free/online:
http://healthandlight.com/TheMasterCleanse.pdf
- Offical Amazon page (good to read the reader comments!)
Amazon.com: The Master Cleanser: Stanley Burroughs: Books

Amazon.com: Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, Second Edition: Peter Glickman: Books
- Forum dedicated to the master cleanse:

Misc info in regards to the MC:
- Important to rinse/bursh your teeth after drinking the lemonade and/or use a straw, otherwise teeth issues may develop
- As one of the signs of detox is your sign going totally pink, if it stays cloudy it might be due to Candida: (info & test)
Master Cleanse Forum - Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet :: View topic - Coated Tongue not going Away? You might have Candida
- Info on the stages of fasting:
What Are The Effects Of Detoxification On The Body?
- You can actually *gain* weight on the MC; use more (lots? Tons? Unsure of info/source) maple syrup

I started the Master Cleanse last August, and was surprised at how emotional I became. I do 'use' food, I'm an emotional eater - guess I shouldn't have been surprised! I fasted for a week - I enjoyed the lemonade! I liked the ritual of making it fresh every time. I work from home, so was able to deal with the bathroom situation - which wouldn't have been difficult, anyway; you can time the salt water flush so you're not out when you need to go.

My goal was 10 days, but my mom had a stroke when I was on Day 5, which brought up a lot (feelings, issues, etc.) for me. I wasn't able to handle what I needed to handle for her while fasting.

I'll probably do it again at some point.

Did it for 9-10 days, not wholly - I sucked on some grapefruit juice.

I have never felt better or slept better in my life. Everything you read about it is mostly true. I went from 115 to 107, my skin was like a baby's arse, circulation better, cellulite gone. Be very careful coming off - I can't stress that enough.

Something cracked in my head and I suddenly felt very deprived after those 10 days and I ate a lot of icecream and anything else I could get my hands on. Basically undid the job. But I'm doing it again and I'll post a log here when I do - those logs kept me going the first time.

Just thought I would bump this up
I see lots here about water fasting & buried in the past is
“The Master Cleanse”

I wanted to be a vegetarian & along the way, I tried too hard at the time & after a while knew that trying to do something with constant effort wasn’t the way to go.
Also, I have always had very oily skin & did the pharmaceutical way, also the dermatologist way, in the end both never bought me any success… I also wanted to quit the heavy drinking… nothing worked for me at that time.
Around those times I was reading up about fasting & the good being done to those who had made it through to the end of their fast.

Then along came the Lemonade diet “The Master Cleanse”
Hmmmm…10 days?
The salt water flush daily
Laxitive tea

Sourcing the high grade Cayenne was easy. I had to import the Maple from Canada to New Zealand.

The first 2 days was a bit of a challenge…as expected.
Funny how habits like to take over, especially, the forever suggestive mind.
Every time the hunger pangs came, I drank another master cleanse drink.
First fast went 22 days. I worked as well & did things I normally did as well.
Coming off the fast using freshly squeezed oranges made the transition easy to later move on to semi solids.
Since then I have done a further 3 fasts over the years.
The next time I do this fast, I would get colonics done as well.

My first fast resulted in letting go of the meat diet without any effort….something I could not do before the fast, after many tries I gave up.
The oily skin remains but the battle of the acne from my teens cleared up 70%.
The attachment to drinking disappeared as well without effort.

To those looking to do a fast that is not as intensive as a proper water fast, have a try with the master cleanse.
If you can get time off work to rest yourself while fasting…all the better.

Lastly, I have to agree what the last poster said about being careful when coming off the fast…be sure you are using freshly squeezed oranges & not bottled orange juice. Not all orange juice you buy is orange juice only… I got caught out on that & the sugar in the bottled orange juice nearly knocked me out (dizzy spell)

My husband tried the salt water flush (just to try it). He wasn't too pleased.

I tried it twice, couldn't get past a day which is weird because I can normally fast for a day or two, but with everything else I got super dizzy and <3<3<3<3<3<3 feeling.

No pun intended.

i called it the hummingbird diet. i didn't stop buzzing!!! it's a lot of sugar, i think that's about it though :/ i felt good, lots of energy and no crashes because...well you just keep drinking sugar! i really liked the spicy concoction and used hot water often to mix it up a bit.

i don't think i would recommend it. it's easy sure but it's not enough nutrition to really fuel my body. just a 12 day sugar rush in my mind.
i think juice feasting is healthier.
