Ever since I switched to a high fiber diet and paid more attention to my intestines, i felt more sensitive and able to feel my peristalsis. I felt that there're things moving all the way from the top of the colon to the rectum. This is very obvious and I know exactly when peristalsis is happening, and it seems to happen quite fast. I upped my fiber and water intake but the price is very sensitive to my peristalsis.. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing. I've never bothered/felt things moving in my tummy before, it's like that little alien thing from giger but it moves within your colon and out of your a** instead. Anyone here can confirm if they're able to actually feel their peristalsis ? It's a weird, funny and scary feeling because you always fear if it might cause you pain while it's happening. The result is defecation is extremely easy and no constipation issues at all. Everyday guaranteed defecation. |

| Hi bman, Really good topic, but let me finish breakfast first. Ahhh, there we go. I don't know if i am feeling my peristalsis, but from the second i have the urge to the moment i am washing my hands, about 60 seconds has passed. I want to take full advantage of the signal and not give my colon a chance to go dormant on me. You feel a kind of rhythmic action within? |

Perhaps and hopefully it's just a matter of getting used to it and then embracing it I will pay better attention to whether i am actually feeling my peristalsis... haven't really thought about it. In any case, eating lots of raw fruits and vegetables (and being assured of a thriving, flourishing environment of healthy bacteria within), i am having very clear signals when it is time (maybe a peristaltic signal?) and getting 3 easy movements per day. | |

| You can feel things moving through but not the peristalsis which happens 24 hours a day. Also the are 2 types of fiber and many kinds like pectin, cellulose etc. The fiber from whole wheat is very hard on the colon and irritating. You might be under the idea that this harsh fiber is what you need and might be getting too much of it. Of the 2 types, one slows it down (soluble) and one speeds it up (the passage of waste). One of the kinds of fiber that is irritating is the latter type. Here is a list of every food with plenty of fiber and everyone without fiber. All animal foods have no fiber. All plant foods have plenty of fiber if it was not removed by man (unprocessed has plenty). Ask any doctor if it is possble to stop peristalsis without surgery or powerful drugs and he will say "no." Then you can tell them that fasting can stop peristalsis since there is no need for it. Your intestines get a vacation for the first time ever. Try getting more fiber from fruit like watermelon and oranges. A nickname for fiber is roughage since that one kind is rough on you. Last edited by ginkgo; 04-15-2009 at 09:19 PM. |
