After five long years of battling acne (yes, battling) I have finally discovered what TRULY controls, almost cures my acne breakouts! Honestly, my skin hasn't looked this good since I was 14 and now i'm in my early 20s!!!! I think what I did is pretty safe, but if anyone deems it otherwise, please write it down here so others can see... for the first two weeks, I followed a diet strictly based on vegetables, lean meat, and eggs for protein. NO sugar...AT ALL. i am telling you guys, I think this is the main reason why I've broken out all these years, because of Sugar!! what a poison it is, stay away. during these two weeks, again, nooooo sugar..at all! no dairy (no milk, no yogurt, no cheese) no sugar , no sweets, or anything of that sort no nuts ( i think i may have a food allergy to this also which causes me to break out?) slowly, now, this past week, I've introduced carbs again (the minimal needed, as it is essential to your diet) into my diet, and still NOOOO breakouts!!! I am one of those people who has tried EVERYTHING..every single pill (besides accutane), every product (expensive and cheap). everything. except diet...and now that i have finally adopted a healthy way of eating...my skin looks soooo good!!!!! I haven't gotten a breakout in 3 weeks, which is the longest EVER i've gone without a zit on my face!!! so if you're serious about not breakout out anymore, please stay away from sugar by all means and adopt a diet of MAINLY vegetables, some fruit ( I try not to have too much, maybe once every two days), lean meat and fish, and some good carbs (whole grain pasta and whole grain bread) and I guarantee you will see a difference. it has been the ONE thing that has ever worked. let me know if anyone does this and it works for them, I would love to hear some feedback. also, I know dealing with acne is tough, but I think for people like us who have to deal with it, the ONLY way to deal with it, is a healthy diet as I had mentioned above. edit: also... I wanted to say that not only did I eat extremely well, I also worked out (walked, jogged, and strength trained) for 45 minutes 5 times a week, and my body AND face looks great now!!!! I mean I still have the scars (hyperpigmented) on my face, but they look so much lighter and less noticeable too!!! have a good one =) |

I'm glad you found what worked! Sugar does that to me, too. When I was in junior high, I used to have a donut and a coke for breakfast every day. In fact, I drank a soda two to three times a day. Major pizza face (well actually, I mainly broke out on my forehead). *Shudder*

Same here... but my solution is easier and acne isn't as bad. 1. Drink at least 2 litres water a day. 2. Orange/apples, 1 or 2 a day. 3. Use a facial cotton with toner every 3 days and unclog the pores. 4. Change my pillow case as often as I can. 5. Cut down on meat, eat more vege, raw if possible, onions, garlic. |

Congrats! That's awesome, and I bet you feel great. I definitely echo your experience with sugar. Dairy and coffee are also triggers for me. I love cheese and coffee, but I have to keep my intake very low. Of course, hygiene and hydration are important too, but I think diet plays a huge role for many people with adult acne. |

right now, I have about 7 zits on my face, when last week, i had..0..zero, that is right ZERO. I woke up this morning with 7 zits on my face!!!!! why? why you ask? because i had sugar and other junk food...here's the rundown: breakfast: chinese food (rice and sesame chicken) , bottle of coke lunch: steak sandwhich and then a LARGE chocolate ice cream with brownies from Coldstone and bottle of pink lemonade snack: chicken wings and french fries dinner: big cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup, a piece of vegetable pizza and ANOTHER LARGE chocolate ice cream cone with brownie pieces and fudge and caramel. I really hate myself for the terrible diet I had yesterday, and to top it all off, guess what? my face reacted TERRIBLY, it looks terrible...my face with all the new acne bumps. ugh it is so hard staying focused. anyone have some encouraging words on not going off the track of healthy eating and no sugar? I was a pig i really was, and i got my punishment, as it is apparent. |

While growing up I experimented with different diets to see how they affected my skin and in the short term I had surprising results: drinking water only (cutting out all sodas) actually made my skin worse. It was weird at the time because it's not supposed to work that way, as you and others have discovered. I tried this a few different times and almost every time it was the same case. It could have just been coincidence. Just get back on that horse, Candle. Sounds like yesterday was just a mistake. It happens! |

I'm not sure viewing your 7 new pimples as "punishment" is your healthiest course.... you might want to try on the viewpoint that this is just feedback, that's all. Your body seems to do better when you're eating cleaner, and you can be grateful to your body for giving you such a clear message. Pimples seem like a fairly innocuous way to get you back on track, when you think about it -- if I ate like that for one day, I'm pretty sure I'd be facing much more dire consequences than a few little breakouts.

Yeah, I suffered from acne too in my teens and early 20's. No one told me anything about carbohydrates/sugar. I washed my face for years every day with Clearasil, with not much help. Then fortunately I got more interested in diet. Though at that point my skin problems weren't as bad anymore anyways. Avoid white wheat, sugar and drink lots of water every day. - A basic receipt for avoiding acne, diabetes, dental problems and more. |

Dang! The last time I was able to eat all that and be hungry for it, I was like 16! Don't beat yourself up too hard. I'm older than you and I have pimples here and there. It just happens, don't let it bother you this bad. jp06, I think you are on the money as far as decent eating is concerned. |
