Default Do you go for colonoscopy ?

Even though you may be a strict vegan, you'd never know.

How many of you went for this during the recommended age or do it before you reach the recommended age?

Basically they stuff a probe up your behind and see everything in a video.

I'm 30 and although I've never been asked, I won't let a doctor stick anything up my butt. I once read a great article by a doctor that talked about how they have to do things like that for everyone for liability reasons, but it's only warranted in a certain people with risk factors.

When they start using ultrasound or whatever, then they can hold it to my butt all they want, but as for fingers and probes, no thanks.

Even if it could save your live?

I mean, there aren't any other ways to check for the scariest cancer and the diet of most people nowadays.... is scary...

Arggghh... this is disturbing to think about!

Default Well.....

I guess first I should say that there are some other ways of detecting colon cancer than the pure colonoscopy. Virtual colonoscopies aren't quite as effective, and are more expensive, but they are a little less invasive. So, Bman, there are options.

But for me? I have a pretty good diet, I've also seen folks I know with pretty good diets end up with colostomy bags from colon cancer ... and been grateful that that they recovered at all. Compared to that ... the colonoscopy process is a breeze.

There are a few things folks should know about. There's controversy over the use of Versed as a drug for colonoscopies because it has an amnesia effect. (See, for example, Colonoscopy blog: Were you informed when you were given Versed? ) This can very disturbing for folks who aren't given warning about it, it didn't bother me in the least, but I both trust the doctors I use and was given excellent information about what to expect. It is possible to have colonoscopies without that.

The preparation is also ... annoying, arguably more so than the procedure. But it's a thing to go through, y'know? It's just not that bad.

I'll likely get one when I'm 40 unless a better test has been developed by then. Can I set an appointment 16 years in advance?

i am 56 and been asked and thinking about it for the past 6 years....my dad had a resection done at 72 for a malignant polyp...so i should...but he had a lot trauma to his body over the years...peritonitis, etc. past smoker, worked in a paper plant with chemicals...a different cancer ended up killing him....i know it is stupid but right now i just don't want to deal with the prep and the time off...but i am healthy...good diet and watch for warning signs...i may get up one day and say hey i think i'll get a colonoscopy. virtual is where you are prepped the same way...empty, empty, empty and they scan you...problem is if they see anything you have to get the regular colonscopy anyway to get a polyp or biopsy......it is a sensitive subject...something about that area of the body and what its function is...

I am 18 and obviously haven't been asked to have one performed. But I think I might go for one mid-twenties. It all depends really because my diet isn't perfect and even if I where to change it I would still want to make sure I am healthy.

Basically for medical diagnostics, bloodtests & MRI's we allow.

vegan, or endure an endoscopy wherever. No, just learn to enjoy... optimal health.

And 'age'? - oh you meant in your prime, like 20's perpetually...
