Does anyone have any advice on overcoming thin hair? I was thinking more alternative approaches, not having to use propecia or rogaine. I was thinking accupuncture, Chinese herbs and/or hypnosis? Anyone have any other suggestions or have experiences with the above?

I have a recipe which includes rosemary and flax seeds. I've used it since 2001, when a medical condition caused me to lose a lot of hair. The catch is, it has to become a routine, both making the gel and using it. Here's a link to a detailed description on how to make it and use it in case you want to try: Natural Recipe for Thicker Hair If you try it, I would apply it every other day for about a month before concluding it doesn't work if you don't perceive any difference. |

Massaging your scalp regularly helps retaining your hair. It won't bring back the hair you already lost, but it will slow down/stop the thinning. This actually makes at least part of the success of anti-hair loss products, just like for anti-cellulite products: it's the massaging that counts.

There are many forums on the internet dedicated to help with hair loss, and it's evident that a lot of dudes (and women!) have a lot tied up in this issue. Afterall, not that many people select "balding" as a desirable characteristic in a potential mate. HOWEVER, I think it's important to address some of the psychological issues and fears around it. In fact, I focused on this issue for myself, and sent out the intention that my hair would always serve me (I didn't really phrase it like that, but that's how I can best explain it). In other words, if I lose my hair or not, I don't want it affecting my sex appeal or self-esteem. What's strange is after I did this, it almost feels like my hair loss stopped! My hair is thinned somewhat, but it hasn't perceptibly thinned for a couple years, and I feel good about it. Personally, I actually think it's kinda weird when an adult male who is in his 30s (like me) or older has a super thick head of hair (except on some people, like Asian dudes, who have less incidence of baldness). Notice that many actors have thinned hair and it often looks awesome. My mom used to say that she couldn't even look at a guy with a full head of hair, because it doesn't appear masculine. I'm not bashing you full-heads out there, but these concepts have been solidified in my mind to my benefit! Do I fear that women -- esp. younger women -- won't be attracted to me? Well, my gf is nearly 10 years younger than me (she just turned 22 and I'm 31), and she's real cute and petite. It was an issue of fear when I was younger and my hair was more full, and somehow it's become a non-issue for me now -- I don't even think aout it. In my case, my hair isn't THAT thin, but it's definitely noticable. Like I said, ever since I came to terms with it, the progression seems to have stopped. But maybe that's because I don't fuss about it that I don't notice. Anyway, I'm not condemning you for asking the question -- if you're inspired to seek remedies, do it! I'm just conveying my personal experience. Oh, and I would suggest not getting too obsessed like some of the guys on balding forums out there. Oh, and check out this little green guy -- he's bald and happy: |

| Donīt waste your hopes, time and cash. I can guarantee you none of it will work for baldness. Unless there is a placebo effect so strong it makes you see hair that isnīt there. Srsly, hypnosis for baldness? The scams people come up with never ceases to amaze.

My husband is bald - not by choice. He used to use rogain, until I told him to stop since I LIKE him bald. Now, he doesn't mind being bald... since I still think he's sexy and will jump in the sack with him with or without his hair. It's funny how some men mind being bald, until their women make them feel attractive without the hair... and it's no longer an issue. |

I just got done researching this completely, about 2 days ago. Going raw food/vegan, reducing stress, and clearing the sebum from your scalp all might promote better hair growth, but you likely won't see "significant" regrowth, just a halting of loss. I am doing those things IN ADDITION to minoxidil and propecia (starting all of it fairly soon). If I don't get the hairline I need, I will also consider doing hair grafts, around 300-500 of them. I've heard rogaine/propecia don't regrow hair to the sides, but I'm using an exfoliate before and skin conditioner after the rogaine to ensure maximum penetration to the deepest levels of the skin. My hair has currently receded to typical adult male levels by age 26, with very slight signs of light baldness (the DHT-induced kind) possible in the future (it's purely genetic, all men in my family bald). I sort of have a "widow's peak", so rogaine and propecia may not even do anything for me. Last edited by Manomanman; 03-27-2009 at 01:06 AM. |

I use rogaine (actually the Target brand is the same thing just allot cheaper), but I just found a product called Birm, which is a natural product made from a root found only here in Ecuador. The product is mainly a nature product to help with your immune system and is made to promote a stronger immune system to fight the efffect of cancer and AIDS. That being said Birm also makes an all natural shampoo that is suppose to really help your scalp. I am using it but am still using minoxidil as well. Good luck, I also agree with the posts that say you have to relax about it and accept I think it is more natural then we realize but it still is tough to accept for a little while. My wife who I met after I started loosing my hair has never even really made it an issue and I think most women think less of it then we think.
