You are going to receive the following comments: Yes. No. Maybe. Information. These will come at you from a few viewpoints. Focusing on whether or not it is rationally a healthy idea, and whether or not emotionally it is a good idea. Do you think a 5 - 10 day fast is a good idea? (rationally) Do you feel a 5 - 10 day fast is a good idea? (emotionally) No one is going to convince you either way. The responsibility is 100% yours. Last edited by RRR; 03-19-2009 at 10:57 PM. | |

Rationally - this is a good idea because it will help me detox off of the foods I'm attracted to and give me a quick motivation boost for future weight loss Emotionally - this is a very religious/spiritual experience So I am going on a 5-10 day fast |

I have water fasted for 13-14 days before in the past. It was fun, scary, emotional, prideful, inexpensive, and unique. I dropped 25 lbs, I gained 5 back quickly and 10 back slowly, I am down 20 after going raw and exercising. I suggest journaling as a way of preserving the experience for posterity. Also...around day 6 watching other people eat was really bizarre and fun to watch. It is really a unique experience to have, eating seems totally foreign, much fun to view it through that lens. |

| The best person to answer that is you. A 10 hour fast is safe for eveyone since that is what you do when you sleep. The first meal of the day is called break-fast. Fasting is good for losing weight according to the New England Journal of Medicine. Their quote is on this website on Fasting. It has other advice on fasting. If you never fasted before, you may want to try 3 days first. Then a few weeks later try 5 to 10 days. Fasting has lots of benefits-- mental, physical and spiritual. The biggest danger is getting up too fast from lying down and passing out and splitting your skull open so stupid people should not fast more than 10 hours. The next biggest danger is after 12 days some people do not have enough potassium and can die. I have fasted on my own for 22 days. But I also know how to break a long fast which is important. Patricia Bragg is a famous health expert. She fasts every Monday (1 day a week) and 3 days at the beginning of every month. Advanced calculus tells me that that is fasting 1 week every month. Fasting gives the digestive system a rest. In fact ask any MD how you can stop the colon from working without drugs or surgery. It is constantly contracting-- 24 hours a day. They will say that it cannot be done. With fasting, the colon takes a vacation and stops working. But when you break the fast, you may need to spend hours on the toilet the next day. |

Hey great guys! Thanks! I'm glad to know that fasting is healthy and sensible. I'm on Day 2 of the fast I already notice that I feel very calm and have a lot of mental clarity. Re: potassium, would an occasional cup of herbal tea with soy milk do the trick? I wouldn't walk to sleep and not wake up LOL. |

I would love to know how it is going for you. I have wanted to fast in the past but worry about my energy levels being stable and up enough to be able to work on my feet all day. Are you hungry? What type of fast are you doing? Just water? Juices? Smoothie? etc? |

Fasting all depends on the person, generally I have fasted for one day a week, drinking normal amounts of water, when I say normal amounts I mean 3 to 5, 8 oz glasses of water during the day, since when I do eat I normally only eat two meals a day breakfast and dinner I really do not experience much hunger during the day I don't know if I could realistically do it for 12 to 15 days straight. You need to take in some type of nutrition and a cleanser to achieve a successful fast.Such as juicing everything(Raw Foods) and using a fiber cleanser to clean the colon. It will improve everything from mental clarity to voiding all the toxins in your body. Good luck to you in your fast. It gets much easier to handle after day 3 your body starts to adapt and cleanse. If you are tiered you should sleep it rejuvenates the body and is essential to keep your energy during the day.Listen to your body it never lies.
