Man, another health issue i overlooked, until i read this post.

My teeth.

Apparently, I have some slight decay at the top back pair of tooth, still manageable but my dental scaler set I bought shows some blackish decay.

Doesn't look like need any fillings, how would a dentist clean up this decay?

This is a question that drives me a bit nuts too. I've been fulltime raw since xmas and read somewhere that citrus acid can harm teeth. So I try and wash always after eating but I also like to be always eating! Do bannanas count?Because sometimes I don't brush after them.18 times a day is enough afterall!
Any thoughts on the neccessary teeth cleaning schedule neccessary for a raw foodist appreciated!!!!!!!!!

My dentist told me to always brush after eating fruit because of the sugar. Acidic fruits are specially harmful becaus of the acid, and dry fruit (raisins, for instance) tend to stick to your teeth for even longer...

As far as I understood, when it is not possible to brush your teeth you can also just flush your mouth with water to get most of the residu out.

To often brushing your teeth is not good either.

So, I think if you brush 3x per day (or at least after each large meal) and just flush with water (or maybe that special stuff... mouth water or something like that?) after other meals or bites of food you should be fine.

My dentist told me not to brush for a while after eating acidic food, because the acid temporarily softens the enamel and the toothbrush then wears it away. It's also a bad idea to brush too often at any time, because it damages the gums and makes them recede. 2x a day is enough even if you graze throughout the day.

I rarely brush my teeth, only when they are "furry" (and no fluoride then - FLUORIDE IS POISON). I think the raw food diet helps a lot. Also I think it's refined sugar that is the real killer. As with all things, in nature the balance of nutrients and energies which science will never fully understand is in its own way perfect - we just need to learn to be in sync with it. If you take one element, one energy away from the totality like we do with sugar, we're missing uncountable balancing elements which we don't necessarily have the ability to understand.

For instance, fruit is fructose, which is a different sugar than glucose or sucrose. It's also bound up in fibre for slow release, and comes with enzymes and the living fruits' own immune system to hold back bacteria.

Did you know that special processes are needed to make honey fermentable for mead - microbes just don't grow on it!

You shouldn't brush your teeth more than 3 times a day or you'll end up wearing off the enamel, making things worse instead of better. This actually happened to a friend of mine who has OCD.
