Default Marathon Training

Hello to all you overachievers!!!! One of my goals this year is to run in a marathon, and I've started to train using the Jeff Galloway training system. Are there other people out there that are training for a marathon or any long distance running?

I have decided to do the South African Comrades Marathon in 2008. Started training on the 14th December. My training has hit a bit of a slag due to converting to Polyphasic sleep and to my running shoes breaking this Tuesday, which I will replace this Saterday.
Currently running the distance of 10Km three times a week.

The longest run I've ever did was 15 miles, and that took forever. So if you can make it for the full 26.2, then you're definitely a stud in my book.

I'm no expert at running, but I do have just a wee bit of experience in it, so if ever have any questions, just send them to me.

Thanks, I will ask for advice when needed. I still have a year and a half to train as the Comrades is in June, just have to keep motivated - takes a lot of self discipline as I am doing it alone and have to run before work when it is still dark.
Only doing 7miles at the moment and plan to join an athletic club this year in June.

Some time ago, when I wasn't doing much of running, just weight lifting and other sports, I didn't think I could do the 26.2 Mile marathon either, I just felt it. Then I came across Dean Karnazes and his ultra-marathon running and though to myself that if a human can develop to the point of running a marathon per day for 50 days, why can't I just train and run in one marathon?

That's where the breakthrough came, I did a lot of research on different training programs and when I saw the Jeff Galloway program, I thought "this is a breeze", so that's what I've picked and am sticking with. On my blog, I'm posting weekly reports.

Oh, and it sounds cool..... "I'm training for a marathon". Ha..

Cool I'm training for Trail Running

I'm training for a 3 day Trail Running and camping trip, which will be taking place in Yosemite National Park in California. I'm very excited about it! And I have some time to get ready because the trip isn't until September.

Also, this summer I might be doing a Trail Run in the Swiss Alps, with my mother. That could be a lot of fun too.

Yep. I did 2 half-marathons last year (one more successful than the other one). I also use the Gallaway method. I'm planning on doing a half in April and I'd like to do another half in the fall along with a full in the fall. I do have a chance of changing my half in April to a full, if I feel like I'm up for it. But I'll wait and see how my training goes. I'm scheduled for 8 miles tomorrow morning.

I recently ran my fifth marathon in 3:22 and beat my old PR by over 10 minutes. For some advice on how I did it check out my blog entry:

My Ongoing Quest for Boston
good advice!

and well done on your PR...

i've run one marathon a year since 1992, and have experience 4+hr to 6+hr marathons...i hope to do a sub-4hr marathon someday...

i believe that anybody can finish a marathon if he/she puts in sufficient training (there are lots of online resource on how to train for a marathon)

all the best to those of you who are running your first marathon - train hard, and stay injury-free...the feeling when you complete your first marathon will be unforgettable...

When I was a lot younger, I ran the Birmingham Marathon; then the following year, I ran the Wolverhapton Marathon.

I gave up running but have always played sport & I am still playing football (soccer) at age 55. Recently, however, I have started jogging again. Just shoty distances at the moment, but who knows, perhaps there's another Marathon in me yet.
