Many seem to like Kitchen Aid. Check out Amazon reviews. They often have good prices too. Stores-usually Target & Bed Bath & Beyond (BBB has coupons) are good.

Default I just bought a $30 Hamilton Beach

Kmart is having a sale this week on Hamilton Beach small kitchen appliances that are red (for breast cancer).

These are called Ensemble because they are all red.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/1...1CGUERA&sr=1-4

The model I bought is new and there are no customer reviews on Amazon.

It has a three year limited warranty.

I like glass jars. This one has a 48 oz glass jar. The blade comes off the bottom if you screw off the bottom part. I like this because I can clean the blade easier.

It has 10 speeds and 550 watts of max power. It crushed the ice cubes I put it in no problem.

I have a HB immersion blender which I had been using to make my smoothies. It worked fine for my needs and was easier to clean. (It was on sale when I bought if for $20 - originally $30.) The new blender allows me to make 2 batches of smoothies at one time easily. With all the clean up (compared to the hand blender) I prefer to make two shakes at a time.)

I think immersion or hand blenders are easier for small jobs or mixing soups and sauces in the pan. A blender will handle more ice crushing though. The hand blender is quicker and easier to clean though.

KitchenAid products are reliable but a KA blender will cost about $75 at least. It depends on how much you want to spend too.

My favorite smoothie is an acai flavor. I assume the recipe you're looking for is for a smoothie.

I use these acai frozen smoothie packets I get in Whole Foods. There are several brands to choose from but I like Sambazon. There are also pint containers of acai frozen dessert that are great too. I use the frozen dessert if I'm out of smoothie packets.

I make one shake (about 16 to 20 oz) with one acai packet, one banana, a scoop or two of whey protein powder, I heaping teaspon of mesquite meal, and a combo of almond milk and coconut milk. The coconut milk alone can make it very creamy but it tastes good. So a combo of coconut and almond milk is not too rich and creamy.

Mesquite meal can be purchased online. It has a sweat taste, a lot of potassium and other nutrients, high amounts of lysine and some other amino I can't remember now. You could leave out the mesquite if you wanted.

But acai is great. Smoothies packets are great because they are frozen so you don't need to add ice cubes or frozen fruit to make the shake cold. I also sometimes put some maca powder in my shakes (usually instead of mesquite). (Some people don't like the taste of maca powder.) But acai is my favorite flavor smoothie.

Why would it be bad for you? As far as I know, ice is just frozen water in the shape of a cube or moon.

Personally, I use the Magic Bullet. A roommate of mine had it, and I got so dependent on it that I bought my own for 30 bucks at Bed, Bath & Beyond (it was on sale). It's great for single servings, and super easy to clean. I find it really powerful, and I've had it for about a year with no perceptible decline in performance after blending a ton of frozen fruit and ice.

It's really versatile -- I use the small container to beat my eggs in 3 seconds (can I say "eggs" in the SP forum?), or even to grind coffee (uh oh, now I've done it). I even use it to blend up rodents and small game for varmint smoothies (kidding!).

I thought ice or cold drinks are bad for digestion.

Here's a blender that's free.

Though I guess that's not what you were looking for, it's what I thought of when I saw the thread title.
