I'm doing 80/10/10 and after big meals my stomach is really really bloated for a really long time. I don't like that. Is that normal? Is my digestion not efficient enough? Does it have to be like that?

I've noticed that when I've gone from a sub par diet (especially one with lots of cheese, or high processed low fiber foods) to a good healthy whole food diet high in fiber my stomach will be bloated for as long as two weeks during the transition. I'm unsure exactly why this happens but I think its partly because my body is still eliminating old slow to digest foods and figuring out how to deal with all the fiber. I'm not sure if that is your situation but I would give it at least two weeks for your digestive system to adjust, and then see where you're at. Another thing to think about is that if you are doing 80 10 10 you are eating a lot of fruits which just have a lot of mass, and so will fill up your stomach, and will probably give you an enlarged stomach for a bit if you eat a lot of them at once almost no matter what. However, if everything is working correctly, just fruits should move through your system quite quickly, so any bloating would probably only be staying around an hour max, and possibly much less. Two things to try would be to just not eat big meals, instead eating continuously throughout the day, or if you do eat big meals, always start with the fruit or high fiber and mass foods. If you're eating overt fats, eat them at the end of the meal, cause they will digest slower, and if you eat them first and then eat a bunch of fruit it will all just have to sit in your stomach until the slow digesting fats are gone. But I'd just recommend giving it some time, like at least weeks (unless you already have), and try to see if its trending better or trending worse. |
