In Steve's new podcast - 'Faster Goal Achievement', he mentions that in order to bridge the gap between your current position and your goals, you have to have go through an internal identity shift. This happens when you introduce side effects of already achieving that goal into your life. So I've started this thread to list out the side effects of losing weight, so that we can try and implement them. Anyone? |

Side effects of losing weight ideas: # Standing taller. Standing/Sitting/Walking in the right posture. Not slouching. # Faster movements (as johnp mentioned in the podcast thread). Quote:

You don't think about food as often, you remember it's time to eat when it's time to eat or when you feel indeed hungry. And the kinds of food you think about eating are far healthier and less caloric.

I could go on, because the benefits are nearly endless. But I'll let some other members post more good things. |

I'm not being sarcastic, but I read a semi sarcastic/semi factual article recently about very overweight men. As some things shrink other things seem to look bigger. The rule being that for every 10 lbs lost a guy can appear to be an inch "taller" below the waist. Ahem!

I am tempted to add-- increased spiritual clarity! A healthy glow, and radiance! btw, those are side effects you'll get when you get there, probably can't induce them beforehand. I think that waves of energy can more easily travel through our bodies when they're healthy and at optimal weight, not when carrying excess solid energy in the form of fat. A lighter body, freer spirit, and better energy flow. And is overall much easier and more natural to be at your optimal weight. |

Exercise allows you to more deeply relax and at times Let Go of the awareness of your body. This makes a ton of space for spiritual growth and exploration. This space I believe is ideal to gain any kind of knowledge or experience we desire. Last edited by LivingWarrior; 01-09-2007 at 09:27 AM. Reason: grammar

LOL. I have spent some time affirming myself about the glories of enjoying healthly food and I must say that is working now. If I am out at a restaurant, wan't baked potatoes and salads, instead of chips and extra garlic bread. I also drink lots and lots of water, instead of too much coffee and teas. Thankfully never been fan of soda drinks....(have you ever put a dirty coin into a glass of coke....wow....see how clean it comes out....imagine what it is doing to your insides. Well my side effects are: - I am feeling more clearheaded I am feeling more energised I am feeling more sexy!! (Wobbly bits, firming up) G

You know, while growth rate of the manliest body part of all is definitely not 1 inch for 10 lbs, it's certainly a fairly high growth rate. I can speak this from experience. At 330 lbs, I measured an average 5 inches (from top to tip, fully ready for use, with a ruler). Now, at 300, I measure a full six inches. I just hope that at my goal weight of 220 lbs (I have a large amount of muscle, and that amount keeps getting larger) I get at least another inch, which would put me into the gigantor range. Now that's a reason to lose weight if I ever heard one.

All this talk about manhood size leads me to a warning: stay away from steroids. That'll easily undo any "member benefits" you might have otherwise acheived, not to mention all the other damage it can cause.

Going to supermarket with a food shopping list - and coming back with those stuff only! It helps if you go when you're full. Also, going clothes shopping and coming back with few extra pairs of sexy underwear... While you're there, buy yourself some fine body lotions and massage oils, they'll boost your sexual confidence - esp. when you put them on with light movements. also, stay naked for a while after shower; dance if you will! |

Guys!! This is it! I have found it! Remember when Steve talked about carrying more money in his wallet to become a millionaire? It felt enlightening... That is how I feel right now, with the discovery I have just made. The side effect of weight loss is wearing M-size shirts (or whatever your dream size is) instead of XL-size shirts. Think about it. You probably have attempted to loose some weight in the past and succeeded to a certain extent. Then what happened? You felt really good in your clothes, and you felt thin. The scale showed you that you still had a long way to go, but if you feel thin all day long in your L or XL clothes, why would you diet? On the contrary, this is when you start indulging yourself. Having XL clothes in your wardrobe is incongruent with being thin. I am starting an experiment and I hope you will join me: I will fill my wardrobe with M clothes. These will be the clothes that I'll be able to fit in once I've reached my goal. Until then, I will wear clothes that are a little too tight for me, but that I can still put on. Of course, there is the whole diet, exercize, etc. But to do that, you need the inspiration. I feel really inspired right now, and I think this could work! Let's eradicate fat! ^^ Haha. I know this is a subjective reality, but I am not sure if I want to subject other people to the sight of me stuffed into a medium shirt |

| I would say no. If your brain senses that you're looking through rose coloured glasses it'll be reluctant to play along. What was that saying: to succeed you need to determine the price of what you want to do and be willing to pay it? I suspect that applies in this context too. |

Very inspiring! Now, perhaps it doesn't apply to people who are losing 10, 20 or 30 pounds but, for obese people, the side effects of losing weight are extremely compelling. Here's a sample from my own list of side effects of going from obese to normal: -Being able to grab my ankle with my hand while standing upright -Being able to put on my socks easily -Being able to turn in bed without feeling like a whale stranded on a beach trying to move -Being able to securely lie down in the bath without water splashing out -Being able to comfortably sit with my legs underneath my bum -Smelling better because underarm fat is not blocking my sweat from dripping freely -Walking confidenly without holding in my stomach -Being able to shop for clothes I like in normal stores and not just in fat stores -Walking in a skirt without having inner thigh fat rubbing and without getting a rash -Being able to run after the frisbee in the summer and get it Adverse side effect of losing the fat: -Not being able to float on water anymore (As it is, I float like Jesus walked on water and need absolutely no accessories to lie down and float without moving for hours and hours if I wanted to.) |

Regardless, people should be confident whatever they look like. The major positives of losing weight is on its functional and economical perspective. You spend less maintaining your body when you are fit rather than being overweight wherein you eat a lot and then spend a lot trying to be fit. It's a cruel cycle. Not to mention the cost of medicine when your health drops at a later age due to excessive eating...
