Default Deodorant

I have been informed that I don't have "a pleasing aroma". I guess it's time to ditch the ol' Tom's of Maine.

I'm pretty wary about using deodorant with aluminum in it, and not sure what to use instead. I found an old thread on this board:

Soap

Basically there's one recommendation for coconut oil and a few peeps claiming that a better diet will reduce the stink at the source.

I also recently stumbled across a salt crystal that you rub under your pits:

Dispatches from the Island: I can't believe this thing works

Anyone else have advice or can share experiences with deodorant and body odor? I'm going to try the coconut oil first since I already have a supply of it.

"Been informed"?

Forget those people. Humans smell. As long as you shower after working out, you're going to be fine.

Squeeze and apply a bit of lemon juice. Will sting. Put on deodorant if you want. No smell the whole day even if you sweat.

I like to dab a bit of essential oil under the arm after my shower in the morning. Something like Rosemary or sometimes Eucalyptus. I know others that have had luck with this as well.

I use the rock crystal you mentioned. Except I go with the liquid version and spray it on. I love it. It's not an antiperspirant, so you can still sweat and it won't clog your pores. I've tried a ton of others over the years, but for me this was the best. And yes, I have found diet does affect your body odor, so maybe you can take a look at what you are eating.
On a side note- I am lucky, my BO seems to attract women

JAX- smells good!

Hey-

Tom's was irritating my skin, so I use deodorant from Lush-

LUSH --

This is not a strong-smelling deodorant, but it doesn't irritate my skin...

Hey everyone thanks for all the replies!

So far tried the coconut oil (nope) and baking soda/cornstarch mixture (nope... but maybe will try again with more baking soda in the mix).

Or just clean up your diet and remove the source of the smell. I stopped using deodorant years ago. Article here.

Good article, and I enjoyed your site. Thanks!

I'm doing the Raw Divas 7-day detox right now and then something through the end of Lent. Maybe raw. It would be interesting to see how it affects my smell.

Not all deodorant has aluminum in it. Skip the white, flaky antiperspirant/deodorant combo and try plain deodorant, Old Spice or something like that.

Whatever you choose to do on the deodorant side, I'd recommend a massive increase in raw greens every day, especially parsley. And certainly jacking up the raw in general, as it sounds like you're looking into. Might not work miracles over-night, but it will probably help.

Everything "toxic" and acidifying...negativity, resentment, in addition to processed & preservative-laded foods...will affect your scent. I imagine there must also be some kind of constitutional influence, but I've never heard anyone present a theory on it.

It's possible to be without unpleasant body odor, provided you do bathe. I haven't worn deodorant for years, and I don't generally smell, even though I'm an athlete & certainly sweat a lot. I know I used to have stronger body odor when I was younger, before I made a lot of changes to my body & mindset.

Default the crystal

I like using this.

It may take a few days for your body to adjust... but it works.

also

It won't clog your pores with aluminum and salt

It is possible to just by crystal rocks in lots.

I have done so on ebay.

Check your diet! The people I notice who smell less pretty to me are those who are eating things they probably should not. I don't mean garlic. I mean just a general bad diet or something incompatible with their body chemistry.

Also some health issues may mess with your body chemistry resulting in someone noticing an odor. I knew one person who had a bad toe fungus. He didn't think it was so bad or he didn't notice the smell, but he's BO was bad even with shoes and socks on. Ive heard that gout in some people may also cause a BO.

Yeah, the six to one ratio is a little extreme. I would try 3-1 or even 2-1.

What happened when you tried it? Just didn't work well?

That crystal stuff works great for me! I shower in the morning, lotion all over, and apply the deoderant crystal - and smell great all day long, regardless of activity level.

The diet is the key. The odor comes from bacteria. When I eat sweets my candidiasis kicks up and immediately I have a problem with bad odor regardless of how often I shower. I use coconut oil for my skin but it is absorbd so readily under arm that it's antibacterial effect is not long lasting.

Try tea tree oil and even small bottles of anti-bacterial gel to get you by until your detox diet clears out the bateria producing problem.

Another vote for the rock crystal. It seems like wetting a rock and rubbing on your skin wouldn't be enough, but for me, it works awesome.

Go for an anti perspirant deodorant, stick. ^^, use the brand you desire to use. It's very effective.

The deodorant crystal works well for me. My husband doesn't like it though and uses Tom's of Maine. I think you should try the crystal though. Like most others here said clean up your diet. If you're eating a lot of fresh leafy greens your odor won't be as strong.
