Default Cold Showers

Hi there,

I've been reading a lot about the benefits of cold showers and have just started having them.

Does anyone have any experience of them? I am interested to know if they are beneficial.

My own experience is that they make you feel very alive, but I am a bit concerned at just how cold I feel. The water is cold beyond any cold I've ever felt here and I literally shiver, it's so cold I feel like I've got sunburn when I'm finished. Afterwards I do feel glowing though.

There is a kind of weird satisfaction about them!

Anything to add?

AL

I love them. But start easy by a little bit colder and then just increase it so it gets colder. You could also alternate between hot/cold and I am trying that out for now.
I second the satisfaction, they feel great

I used to had them, but not anymore(not so courageous anymore).

But when I used them, I felt quite good.

So I encourage you to keep having them and read articles about them until you decide 100%.

While I agree with cold-showering, I don't believe in bathing in cold lakes, especially not jumping into them as that could cause you a shock.

Yeah cold showers make the day better, they just aren't as fun if you take one immediately after you wake up. They feel so good though.

Cold showers really wake you up that's for sure. I'd have to agree about easing into them. You can make the water cold gradually if stepping right into a cold shower is too much of a shock to your system. Alternating hot and cold in the shower is also great for your circulation.

Default Never got all the way

I started progressing into cold showers last year, gradually getting cooler each day. I never got to the point where there was NO hot water, but I did thoroughly enjoy how invigorating they were.

Now it's hot and summer again down here (we're getting over 105 degrees here) I'd like to thank you for reminding me! I'm going to go back to them... Maybe this time I'll be so used to them that winter won't convert me back again?

When I take a really cold shower after being in a normal one, my body starts to numb. Not in the way that cold numbs, but more the way that your mouth feels numb after eating a REALLY spicy pepper. I guess my endorphins kick in really strongly. It's not a bad feeling, just a bit strange. It's consistent, though, and becomes especially strong when I alternate between hot and cold water three or four times in a row. I don't do it gradually, so it might be the shock that causes the numbing.

I like cold showers... but I can't make it through the whole shower freezing cold. I just like to turn it from hot to cold for about 4 minutes at the very end... because it wakes me up, it gives me an instant mood boost, and it makes my hair shiny.

I don't know if there's any scientific evidence to back it up... but I just read an article on cryotherapy in Vogue, and this is kind of along the same lines, so I'm sure there are some benefits.

I used to punish myself with 'polar-ice-dips' in the shower whenever I broke a promise to myself.

Sometimes if I didn't prepare myself mentally for ice cold water I'd jump in and my heart would explode!

I decided I liked myself too much to keep up the cruelty. Now I just run down the block with bare feet in the snow. Now i'm only 20% cold instead of 3450%.

LOL - oh for snow to run in! Under serious bushfires down here in Oz. Luckily not near me, at this point. Still, cooler is getting lots of use.
Took my first mostly cold shower this morning after reading this. Is it just me, or does the water feel so much colder on your head than anywhere else?
