Since Athena asked about the safety of computers and then mentioned spending less than 2 hours per day on them, I thought it'd be interested to see just how much time many of us spend in front of the screen. Feel free to mention if it's an LCD or CRT monitor.

Gosh! I'm 1 of the 3 who spent 7 or more hrs on the PC! Ha I'm not using an external monitor. I'm using a Sony VAIO notebook. 11" monitor. That's as good as it gets for me! It's bad I know. Staring at a small screen with small text for so long hours. But well...

I have a desk-job so all of my working hours are spent in front of a workstation. That's about 8 hours right there, with another 1-2 hours spent at home. My work machine has a LCD monitor, while my home machine is a 19" CRT.

For me it's a 13 inch IBM thinkpad. With no tv, whenever I'm awake and at home I'm likely on the computer, which can often be 7+ hours a day. My eyes don't really bother me because I take frequent breaks, usually either for a nap, snack, or brief workout. Occasionally I even do a bit of work on the pc |

you should rather ask how many hours a day i dont spend by the pc. unfortunately it is the source of both my entertainment and my work, so i end up sitting in front of it most of my waking day, except to eat, go to the bathroom and do groceries. i really want to change this though as i dont feel its healthy, or very rewarding in terms of life experience.

Wow. I feel so bad for all of us. I work 8+ hours on my computer. I'm sure I could cut it down if I had more flexibility in my schedule, but I can't really leave the office to go chill out for a few hours and then come back to my desk -- I sort of have to chill out in front of my computer screen for a few minutes, then back to work. I've loved working from home the past few days. I get on the computer for three hours, go catch a yoga class. Get back on the computer for three hours, go for a run. Get back on the computer for three hours.... ...but then I usually get on the other computer and play computer games for a couple more hours.

Well, dare I say, I belong to the at leats 5-10 hours a day. My PC screen is 17". Today I have been writing for even longer. I got so into writing that I even forgot to take a proper break. And even now where I should be sleeping, I am still on my laptop 12" screen. I know it is bad, but I just forget the time. |
