Default Have you ever known anyone with an Adonis complex?

In case you don't know what an Adonis Complex is, it is an unofficial mental disorder in which men believe that they are too thin/scrawny with the intention of adding obscene amounts of muscle to what they believe is a tiny frame. I'm not talking about 100-pound ectomorphs who wish to add size, I mean well-muscled individuals who complain they are too small.

I've met a few back in high school. It was at a boarding school, so I saw the same people the entire time. There were guys who had the bodies of Vin Diesel and Laird Hamilton, but always complained that they were were puny. I even told one of them" you have got to be kidding me."

Before I always came across really thin ectomorphs who had no interest in muscle, so it was a surprise when someone actually thought that they needed more size.

While I think this complex may be a very real thing, in its real form it is extremely debilitating to the individual. They become completely obsessed with the notion. Almost like a reverse anorexia.

I believe it may be harsh to think someone to have a mental condition for merely wanting to be bigger and stronger, even if they are already extremely so. Sometimes people are just fishing for compliments and maybe need to be a little more humble.
