Default Should I see a doctor?

The main reason I joined this site was to see if anyone had any ideas to help my sleeping problems. I sleep once about every two days, sometimes one. I can't sleep for more than four hours. Now I've had sleeping problems my whole life, only thing doctors tell me is that stress is probably it, calm down and take these pills. I've listed all the things that could give me some stress and everything on the paper I've had to deal with for at least three years, so that can't be it. Sleeping pills don't do much, I've tried...a lot. Anyways the reason I'm thinking of going to the hospital is a few days ago I started vomiting and getting really bad headaches. I never get headaches. I don't have a fever or even a runny nose. I just want to make sure because I can't really afford this unless I have too. Anything?

Well, everyone has different sleeping patterns, it all depends on what your life style is like and whether it's impact is positive or negative. If you are only sleeping for 4 hours every two days, that could mean your body has adjusted so it doesn't need any more. Do you feel tired all the time? Do you feel sore or sick on a regular basis? Do you feel sleep deprived? If you aren't sleep deprived then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

About the vomiting and headaches, I don't think that's sleep related. If that persists or gets worse, you need to go see a doctor. Really. Go.

As for the sleep, some people just don't need very much to function. Are you tired/feel sleep deprived? If not, then your sleep may not be an issue. If you are tired and still can't sleep, and you don't want to take pills to sleep, then make sure you're practicing good sleep hygiene.

Do you consume caffeine? If so, stop it and see if that helps. The half-life of caffeine in the body is 5 hours for most people. For some, it's been measured to be as long as 30 hours. If your body metabolizes caffeine at a slow rate, then a single cup of joe in the morning could keep you up at night. Same goes for caffeinated sodas. Try Chamomille tea before bed (if you're not on blood thinners or an aspirin regimen). Kava Kava is supposed to help with sleep, if you can get it. I've not tried it personally, though.

If you think you're practicing good sleep hygiene and you're still not satisfied with your sleep, then go talk to a doctor about it. Maybe go to a sleep clinic if one is nearby, or see a doctor who specializes in sleep.

Go see a doctor. Come back here if they don't work. ^^ When it comes to your health, it's best to talk to the doc.

p.s. try to recall something you did, that was totally unrelated to your routine. (food/pills/herbs/cigarettes/drinks/alcohol) p.s. Think positive it'll lighten the load off your mind.

The vomiting isn't normal. Some people are getting a stomache flu right now, but if you think it might not be the flu (or if it persists), definitely see a doctor.

I am tired, not all the time but I do get really tired. I do not drink coffee, it makes me sick. I do drink soda but not that much, I stick with water and fat free organic milk. I don't believe it is stress related because nothing is that different then what I usually have to deal with. I don't think I have the flu, I'm not nauseous at all, well until I hurl.

I went to the doctors and they only focused on the vomiting issues, and gave me a pescription for that, and one for sleeping even though that one is 100$ for 5 of them. Not going to happen. They wanted to give me xanax, I've tried that before and it didn't work and it just made me rage. I'm going to buy the nausea pills because they are a 'low grade tranquilizer' so hopefully they will work. If not then I'm going to go to a clinic. Wish me luck because I am losing my mind, I need sleep.

Check out the "Deep Sleep: 101" book/CD combo. That has helped me some when I had sleeping problems.

Also consider going to a hypnotherapist (this is different than a hypnotist). I recommend working with somebody who doesn't actually put you in an unconscious trance, but rather, puts you in a conscious trance (i.e. you're deeply relaxed and have greater access to the unconscious, but your conscious is still aware and involved). This approach also helped me discover some things when I had some sleeping problems.

Your response indicates that you either didn't read, or didn't understand my response. It also shows you have extreme biases and judgments about something which you have no experience with.

This kind of shocked me. Not for the content, or the words but just because it reflects some more disturbing beliefs within. You are restrained by fears you have, and these fears are what stops you from sleeping well. If you are scared of rape, what else are you scared of? And how did this belief come about? What other beliefs do you have?

There's a lot more going on here than just the sleep issues.

haha you guys need to lighten up, I said that because of someone making you pass out. I know it's a 'conscious state' but you're still 'under'. Like when you go to the dentist. I'm not serious.

At least hypnotists don't have all those tools. :/
