Just wanna share with you guys something (because my friends will think I'm crazy if I told them and I'm really want to share my experiences) 4 days ago I've decided to try and meat again for at least 21 days because I want to see the effect. As you guys can see from the title... I've had some nasty experience with it... I've became a vegan for... months now (can't remember the exact date) and I wasn't even aware of the many positive effects it have on my body. For starters, I was able to sleep 5.30-6.30 hours per day w/o depending on any external stimulus. Now, back to my meat eating experience... it was terrible. Sure, the meat is somewhat delicious compared to my vegan diet and I have more choices... but, the last 2 days I woke up feeling tired and groggy. It seem that my body need more sleep but my body have already programmed itself to wake up 6 hours later. I can see that my productivity level dropped and most of the time I feel tired. I can't think clearly (I've wasted a lot of time today). Anyway, the point is I found that meat eating bring many negative effects to the body. And it would be very bad because I'm about to attempt polyphasic sleep, for now I only want to read the experiences of polyphasic sleepers... Vegetables rules! Maybe I should try raw food diet next. -time for my nap (thanks a lot, meat)- |

I think it's because your body isn't used to eating meat anymore. But just like KeithS says, I've never seen a healthy looking vegan. And this also holds me from becoming a vegan.

There are exceptions Victor Lemuria, usually life changes start out hard then get easier, working out get easier the more you do it. I'm sure this is no different. Last edited by KeithS; 01-14-2009 at 09:57 AM. Reason: Forgot a comma. |

Not every vegan/vegetarian/raw person you meet has been that way for years and years and years.^^

lemuria: Try the raw food diet, it's a great experience and it will make you more aware of the effect food really has on us. Also, good luck on the polyphasic, I just started myself and the first week is a real challenge. KeithS: If there are exceptions, then you really can't say "Never." Lastly: When I see people around, I notice that not all of them look healthy. I would say less than half. That's a staggering number of people being unhealthy on the regular diet. I believe that until we can find the one perfect diet, we'll still be searching.

congratulations on finding what works better for you, and proving it to yourself to boot I'm an ethically inclined omnivore myself (meaning I do eat meat, but not from mass production/tortured animals, and not like it was never a living being. I'm not from the US or any big developed country though, so I think it's less complicated for me), but I'm happy for you (and I hope you respect your food too) your friends might be happy too, if you let them? if you call them your friends, then your happyness should be important in those relationships. so if you tell them you found a way to be more happy with your life, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to respect your choice and share your joy with you. but hey, in any case you have this place, and when people here don't get too wrapped up in politics they can share this joy with you. congratulations once again |

I am completely agree on all the consequences of meet you've listed. You lose a lot of energy and sleep longer. I did not even realise that since starting meditating I did not eat any meat because my body just would not want that. It was natural choice. Without eating meat I feel great and have much more energy, positivity and focus. |

I've seen Joe respond to dozens of inarticulate, irrational and downright ignorant posts about the veg*n diet. I'm sure that would get old after a while.

good on you! I've been vegan for 6 months now, and feel awesome! some of the benefits - 1) better sleep 2) better bowel movements (very important!) 3) save money 4) better stamina through the day (peaks and slumps smoothed out) 5) much slimmer good on you for giving up meat. it's a bold step forward.

I googled and found a few famous vegans to take a closer look at. Honest question - do they look pale, yellowish, or sickly? If nobody told you they were vegan, could you tell by looking at them? If you felt groggy, etc., after eating meat again, it could just simply be the fact that your body is used to breaking down plant food, which, in many if not all cases, is a lot easier on the body. However, it sounds like you don't have any ethical feelings against meat, so it sounds like you can make a choice that just leaves you happy. I believe you can be healthy eating vegan, raw, veggie and omnivorous. I think being happy about your diet is the most important factor. |

When you do, be sure to take pics so we can judge for ourselves. I wonder of Bryan Adams gets pillow-hair?

I know 2 vegans. They both are always ill and look very pale and yellowish. That's probably why I think every vegan is unhealthy. But ofcourse that just isn't true. Maybe I should try it for myself in the near future...
