I have been noticing I've been sleeping for over the recommended times. I sleep anywhere from 10 to 14 hours depending on the day, unless I have some purpose to go without sleep. Is this due to the fact that I am sleeping too much or is this also due to metabolism? I've gotten this problem cured in the past, while I was working. However right now when not having structure or activity as I once did it has gone back to being long hours.

The wife of a friend says she's always done best on 12 hours sleep per day. Somehow she manages to fit it in. Others might do better on 4. It varies. I find I currently feel best on a variant of the everyman, with a 3-5 hour core sleep plus a couple 10-20 minute naps as needed.

I've read somewhere some statistics that said people who sleep less than 6 or more than 8 hours tend to live 5-10 years less than average. I also read that sleeping that much is really unhealthy, and the reason you need so much sleep could be because you've gotten used to it, your metabolism, as well as mentally (it became a habit). One more thing you should consider is it's kinda sad if you have no reason to get up, so you might also want to go out and find something that's worth waking up early P.S.: I'm no expert in such things and it's possible the numbers are not absolutely accurate, I'm just trying to help you |

Over the 3 year period I was working, I rarely ever slept this much unless it was an off day. However, I'd have more energy. There was a time when I started to do aerobics and eating better. During this period, I had a lot of energy and slept less than 7 hours a day, without difficulty. Also, when I have someplace to be or something to do, I can often get myself up. Its just when I don't that is the trick, getting up for me is difficult.
