Default unconventional methods ?

although I enjoy reading studies of unconventional methods for treating illnesses I also like to read of personal experiences

so if you guys could give me some unconventional methods for treating cold/flu symptoms I would appreciate it

today I have been using my neti pot with a touch of salt
I had a hot shower
and have been drinking lots of cold drinks -alternating organic juices with fruit smoothies
earlier I had some organic soup

so anyone with some other ideas ?

If you are having trouble with a clogged up nose at night, put half an onion near your head. It will help keep your sinuses open.

In addition to the above, I have read that visualizing and meditating works as well. You will activate the power of your mind to see yourself healing and ultimately becoming healthy if you go within.

I'm so sorry you have the flu. That really sucks. I had it a few weeks ago. I went on vacation to Florida to visit my parents and I spent the whole first week there in bed with the flu. It was a real bummer.

I didn't do anything special. I just got plenty of rest and drank lots of fluids. One of my father's good friends is an acupuncturist and he gave me some herbs to take.

I didn't think of steam, saline rinse (neti pot), or healthy cold drinks to be unconventional to treat a head cold or congestion. These are the sort of things I think a good doctor might suggest.

When I think of unconventional I think of healing crystals or magnetic bracelets. I personally don't reach for those sorts of things, but I know some people feel they help.

I do what you do : steam, cold or hot compresses for sinus headaches, saline nasal spray or saline neti pot, eating right, cold or hot drinks for throat pain, listening to my body, & taking some decongestants if absolutely necessary.

I guess I was referring to the md's that just want to automatically place you on antibiotics and other drugs when they do not work for colds

The key is to do something before you even get sick, like as soon as you have a slight hint such as a little tickle in your throat or anything else similar. Then you take a large amounts of an immune system supplement that contains echinacea, zinc, vitamin c, garlic, etc. Before I switched to raw, I stopped getting these illnesses. I credit it to probiotics, which strengthened my immune system. If I was around someone sick I would use that formula to further ensure I didn't get sick. Staying away from dairy, sugar and white flour is especially important during illness.

I used to get sick (cold/flu) at least 4 times a year. Then 3 years ago I became vegan and I never had any sort of symptom again. I guess I am lactose intolerant.

What bothers me is that any doctor ever told me to try cutting dairy off of my diet. I mean, since half of the human population is lactose intolerant maybe they should know better. Instead they would just give me pills. I wonder why...
