Default Diluting juice while on a cleanse

Hey all. I'm on day one of a three day cleanse and patterning pretty closely after the cleanse recommended in Dr. Young's book The pH Miracle. I've done it once before so I have a pretty good understanding of how it works but I do have a question about one thing. Dr. Young recommends diluting juices with 10 parts water. So to get a liter of green juice drink I'd have about 3 oz. of juice and 30 oz. of water.

He recommends doing this drink a few times throughout the day which only ends up being about 10 oz. of actual juice every 24 hours. I'm wondering if this truly provides enough nutrients for the body. I survived the three-day cleanse last time but I think I had a stronger concentration of juice.

Any thoughts?

I didn't do a cleanse with that program but I did follow the diet on a trial basis for 3 weeks and lost 16lbs of fat so it was great. From my research on nutrition stuff so far I've read that cleanses aren't really that great for you. Meaning, doing a 24hour cleanse to let your digestive system rest is ok, but doing a 3 day might be too much. What if you supplemented with green salads? Like a lettuce + tomatoe + peppers + broccoli salad or something, just to get something on your stomach?

If you're stuck on the idea of doing a full cleanse, you'll have to read his book carefully to see specifically what he recommends.

Thanks Paul. If you have any authoritative links on why cleanses aren't good please feel free to share 'em.

I am following his guidelines pretty closely. Just want to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients over the last couple of days of the cleanse.

Hi jbischke, I wouldn't be to worried about the nutrients you are getting or not getting during a fast as it is only for a couple of days and the fasting will be doing more good than harm in cleansing your body of all the bad toxins in your system.

I did a 10 day fast in November (3 days water followed by 7 days juices). In the first 4 days my energy was drained but the juices quickly started putting in much more than I had before the fast and even now, a month after the fasting I am still experiencing some of the positive effects.

I diluted most of my juices 50%, except for watermelon and after experimenting found that most of the juices are a bit to thick without water diluting anyway.
I don't think that diluting or not diluting matters to much as fruits and veggies contains mostly water, rather focus on making your own juices and not buying juices that contains preservatives.

I totally disagree with the slowing down of the metabolism and gaining weight when stopping the fast. In my fasting I had lost 13 kg (28 pounds). After the fast you will gain more self discipline in eating habits and are more likely continue eating healthy and thus not regain your weight. I have not picked up the weight and a month has passed already

When I did the fast others work colleagues where motivated by my weight loss and did it with me, but they did not want to go so extreme, just ate fruit and veggies for 5 days (detox not fasting) as your article describes. These work colleagues of mine did not lose as many weight as me and did not acquire the same self discipline in keeping to a healthier diet as I had and they are all now back to eating exactly the way they did before.

You lost 28 pounds on a 10 day fast? How's that possible?

Thanks for the link Erki. I actually came off the cleanse early because it seemed to be aggravating another health condition I have.

I do need to look into this juice thing though. In the book the author recommends to always dilute juices 10:1. This is something I've never done before so I need to figure out whether and why this is important to do.

Athena, yes I lost 13kg and according to converters that is 26 pounds.
When starting the fast, losing weight wasn't one of my goals, I just wanted to see if I could do it but losing it wasn't to bad either. My motivation for doing the fast was because I read that juice fasting helps with getting rid of head aches and helps in sleeping as I had a sleeping problem at the time (funny now that I think of it because I am now at day 11 of my polyphasic sleeping experiment)

I got a bit worried 8 days in because I kept on losing weight but 2 days after I ended my 10 day fast my weight stabilized. I lost weight everywhere through my whole body, the most noticeable was in my face.

My fast ended at 4 November, I am now living a much healthier and more active lifestyle and hasn't picked up any weight since
