I won't start a new thread for this but I tried eating raw one day and I got SUCH a craving for salt that evening.I was only experimenting so I had a cheese pizza which was the nicest one EVER but is this not your body telling you it wants minerals?Should you not listen or is it just a withdrawl symptom?

No, cravings are a misconception. They like to say if you crave meat, that it's your body's way of telling you it needs meat. It's not. Food is instilled into us at an early age-from our families feeding it to us, to society, commercials, etc. To this day, I still will get a strange out-of-the-blue craving for something I haven't had in a real long time. Most is pure junk with no nutritional value. Cravings are also a withdrawal symptom. You'll often crave what you've always eaten. To go from salt to pizza (unless it's yummy raw pizza) is unnecessary when there are tons of salty or savory raw options. Raw salt is either celtic sea salt brand or Himalayan brand, possibly a couple of others. You'll find your need to add salt to things lessen if you stay raw long-term.

All salt is really raw salt. If you heat it, you don't cause any changes. It's not a living thing. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with having a bit of salt as a raw fooder. Or am I wrong? |

It's just like any raw gourmet meal. Something you either make yourself or buy at one of the restaurants. I buy premade raw bread and add ingredients on top. Simple and delicious. Lasagna though is my favorite restaurant meal. All salt is not raw, it's harmful and useless. True raw sea salt is actually good for you, though like with anything in moderation. Sea veggies make a good substitute. Some make they're own salt out of celery. I mentioned above the true raw salt brands which are the most used. Because they're stronger than regular salt, you tend to need less. |

Another silly question! I bought 2 pieces of fruit today with a lot of other stuff in a very buzy fruit shop so didn't ask what they were. They look SO like oranges but I don't think they are.Maybe they could be but look a little different.Any thoughts on what they may be? I also bought my first water melon and have no idea how to eat it or how much of it to eat or how long it will last when opened?Any help appreciated! |

Cut off as much as you want to eat like a 1/4 part of the melon. put the remaining in frige for another day, It will last a week or more. Depending on size of melon I will eat a whole one in a day. spit out the seeds as you go and save to plant in your own garden. The other fruit might be maybe ruby red grapefruit. |

There are lots of online shops you can buy raw cereals in. It's easy to make your own too. I do a mix of soaked sunflower seeds, soaked buckwheat (no hulls), apple, coconut and maybe some nuts. Pulse lightly in the food processor, remove half, and blend the rest. Then I mix it all together, add some orange juice, cinnamon, agave nectar and lay flat on a dehyrator tray (on a solid sheet). You just dehydrate and then break it into pieces when dry. Yummy!! You can do any variation you like.. it's almost impossible to do a bad raw cereal. Then eat with nut or seed milk, maybe with some fruit or berries on top. Raw pizza.. what can I say, is lovely. For the crust you can do it soft or dehydrate. My favourite is carrot pulp, sunflower and flax seeds with spices, dehydrated until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Traditionally in raw pizzas they are topped with a tomato sauce, then a nut cheese, and vegetables. My favourite is to top them with a thick pesto sauce, avocados, olives, sliced tomatoes and marinated dehydrated onions. You can do a zillion variations. There's a free raw food ebook at Raw Food Australia - Home you can download (for PC's). Or try Gone Raw | sharing raw, vegan recipes and advice for recipes. |

Soak raw oats overnight with chopped up dates or raisins. You have to find a good source for raw oats because most have been steamed even if they are labeled raw. Ask around at your health food store or order some online. In the morning, drain the extra water and add chopped up fruit, like apples or bananas, and if you want, add some nuts. You can add cinnamon, some sort of sweetener, or whatever else makes you happy. |

For avocado, it's ripe when it's a bit soft. I cut it until the knife reaches the stone all the way around, then twist the two halves apart. For the half with the stone in, I repeat the process. Then I scoop it out of the skin with a spoon. The stone is fun to grow, though the resulting plant can be quite difficult to look after... For coconut, I poke holes at at least two of the three weak points with a pointy object (or drill them if I'm stuck), then stand it on a container until the juice drains out. You can drink the juice. Then, the best thing I've found is to put it down somewhere solid and break it with a hammer. Floorboards don't seem to work, it just bounces - and don't break the floor I eat grapefruits without sugar. They are more sour than oranges, but nowhere near lemon or lime. ---- My silly raw question (though I'm not actually following this diet): is extra virgin olive oil raw? A quick search suggests some is and some isn't, but I thought it was required to be cold-pressed. |
