I have not exercised on a regular basis for over a year due to several issues--one was an injury to my leg. I used to do Jazzercise for quite a while but am looking for something to do at home that I would actually DO on a consistent basis. Any ideas? Shirley

Right now my current favorite type of exercise is deadlift. I just started a new workout program that takes a couple of minutes a day. I've been blogging about it and will be writing about my diet to. It's Like a three month trial to see how strong I get without necessarily getting bigger. Beyond that everything is good Stephen

My favorite form of exersise has always been walking outdoors. It's free, it requires no fancy equipment, you can do it anytime (unless it's snowing or thundering), you get the benefit of fresh air and it satisfies my urge to get out and go somewhere. Unlike walking around a track, it never gets boring even if you walk in the same neighborhood every day, because people are doing something different every day. As quin mentioned, you may get to see something beautiful (or smell it or hear it). As Silver Fire Prime mentioned, hills are good for making you feel like you've worked harder. You could use a treadmill and listen to nice music. I used to have a ski machine with which you could buy movies that make it look like you really are skiing in the mountains. My second favorite form of exersise is Curves (just for women). It's easy to learn, and they give you a lot of support.

Dancing! Just put on your favorite music and move anyway your body wants. Or dance while watching favorite TV shows as a way to be active instead of sitting. There are many dance videos/DVDs you can use if needed, including free ones on the internet.

In an effort to get back into boxing again before it's waaaaaaaaay too late, I'm currently training twice a day six days a week. I love the weight training and most of the boxing specific training (especially the sparring, which is the fun part - usually). Running, ab work and some of the tedious drills that we do over and over and over and over again: not so much.... Any type of full contact or non-contact martial arts type training can be REALLY fun. You might want to try that out if you haven't. And no, you don't have to be a violent person. |

Muay Thai is awesome. Nothing beats getting shin-kicked in the face. Also, fighting is possibly the most intense kind of exercise there is. If you just want to do something without joining a club or DON'T want to be kicked in the face, try sprinting. "Sprinting is tough. In fact it's so tough, most people fear doing it. Which is exactly why I recommend it." One of my favourite quotes about exercise ever.

I love yoga. I do yoga most mornings before I do anything else. I also do a lot of walking. Walking is great. I walk several times a day even in the cold. I usually walk to the grocery store everyday and I go for another walk later in the day for fun. Those walks are usually an hour. I also do strength training three times a week. Yoga is definitely my favorite.

One word: ballet. It's great exercise. I do my ballet routine every single day. Pire, releve, pire, releve. I also love to bowl, play soccer, jump rope, figure skate, and swimming. Pretty much I love to dance and play badminton with my friend.

I also like the body weight exercises that require no equipment. I've been into exercise and martial arts most of my life and have bought a variety of workout books/DVDs. Here are some of the simple home exercises that I keep coming back to. I'm partial to the exercises that have been around for thousands of years and aren't some new fad: 1) Hindu Squats and Hindu Push Ups. Look them up on YouTube (see below) and you'll see how they're done. A total body workout in about 10 minutes, start out with 5-10 of each and work your way up until you can do more. YouTube - Hindu Pushup YouTube - Full Hindu Squat 2) Yoga sun salutation. Most yoga DVDs have some form of this. Another simple, whole body warmup. 3) My wife bought the whole P90X workout system (maybe you've seen the infommercials). The DVD we use most is the stretching one. You can buy it separately on Amazon. It's about 40-50 minutes of stretching/warmup that hits the whole body and is a workout in itself. The rest of the DVDs don't get as much use lately but they're good too if you're already in great shape. 4) Five Tibetan Rites - I'm not a big fan of the first one which is spinning around with your arms out because it seems a bit strange and makes me a little dizzy but it may work for you and the rest are good, simple whole body exercises. Five Tibetan Rites - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 5) You can't go wrong with running or walking. My preference is first thing in the morning before breakfast (maybe a banana first for some energy). Put your workout clothes beside the bed and set your alarm clock an hour than normal and go. That extra hour of lost sleep will give you much more energy than the hour of sleep you're missing. I do all of the above to keep in shape for soccer, which is my main exercise. Being mid-30s, every day I can still play soccer I count my blessings until the knees or back go out Last edited by GreenGuy; 12-04-2008 at 02:10 AM. Reason: Added links |

Walking + Audio Books = Addiction to Exercise Just get a couple thrillers from the library, and you won't be able to stop exercising!
